As the largest annual fundraiser for theMuseum, the Gala will feature a variety of art, trips, jewelry and more offered in both live and silentauction formats. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the Booth Western Art MuseumLifetime Achievement Award to artist Tom Hill.“Every year we select an important artist in the Museum’s permanent collection to be honored with ourLifetime Achievement Award,” said Booth Executive Director Seth Hopkins. “We are pleased to add TomHill to the group that includes past winners Howard Terpning, G. Harvey, Glenna Goodacre and KennethRiley. Hill was an important illustrator in both New York and Chicago before heading West and attractingattention with his vibrant watercolors,” says Hopkins.Great watercolorist, teacher, and author, Tom Hill was born in Texas and raised in Southern California.Hill studied art at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and later at the Art Institute ofChicago. Tom Hill has had a varied career serving as a U.S. Navy artist, storyboard and set design artistfor Universal Studios, artist-reporter with the Chicago Tribune, and a freelance illustrator and graphicdesigner in New York City. Tom is married to artist Barbara Luebke Hill, who also has work in the BoothMuseum permanent collection.Hill paints in both oil and watercolor mediums but is recognized by his peers as a master in the art oftransparent watercolor. With his noted accomplishments, Hill has traveled the world leading workshopsand demonstrations, championing watercolor as a medium. These opportunities have provided Hill withthe experience and expertise to write several books about color and watercolor painting, including TheWatercolorist's Complete Guide to Color, and his newest book Travels With My Paintbox, highlighting hisworld travels.Beginning at 5:30 pm on February 20, which happens to be Ansel Adams’ birthday, guests can tour thegalleries and view current exhibits Ansel Adams: Before & After and Three Point Perspective: Dean,Elliott & Hagege, enjoy cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction. Also during this time, Executive Director Seth Hopkins will present the Booth LifetimeAchievement Award to artist Tom Hill. Tickets to the Gala are $150 per person.To provide more opportunities to interact with the artists in attendance, patrons can attend two additionalevents supporting the Museum, Boots ‘N’ Saddles and Brunch with Artists. On Friday, February 19,Friends of the Booth will host a fun evening “under the southwestern sky” at Boots ‘N’ Saddles, a pre-Gala party. This Gala weekend kick-off event is being held at Tellus Science Museum and will consist ofcocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres, entertainment, music and dancing. Tickets are $50 per person. OnSaturday, February 20, a Brunch with Artists will be available at the host hotel, the Hilton Garden InnCartersville. This is an informal opportunity to mix and mingle with honored guest Tom Hill and his wifeBarbara. Tickets are $25 per person.In addition to the events and auctions, patrons have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win twopaintings. Artist Michael Untiedt’s piece To Ride the Pale Horse portrays a lone cowboy and his horseunderneath the starry Western sky. This 12 x 16” oil painting is valued at $2,800 and a winner will bedrawn during Boots ‘N’ Saddles. The second raffle will be for a 21 x 29” watercolor of Tom Hill’s entitledBuying Ollas, Tlacolula. It is valued at $3,500 and will be drawn during the For the Love of Art Gala &Art Auction. Raffle tickets are $100 each or three for $250. Winners need not be present to win and areresponsible for shipping.Last year’s events raised more than $180,000 to support Museum exhibitions, educational andenrichment programs through live and silent auctions, sponsorships, and ticket sales.
