Hillcrest's Get-acquainted Dance was successful in completing its purpose. GET-ACQUAINTED DANCE At the Get-acquainted Dance, the informal dress encouraged freely-styled, lively dancing. CLASS ELECTION DANCE Personal interpretations of the latest dances were employed at the Class Election Dance. The Class Election Dance was a celebration of the elections, and 164 was a meeting for the announcement of the election results.

GOOFY GARB GET-TOGETHER Examples of the dress for the get-together were startlingly bright. Because the dance was near Halloween, the deco- rations reflected a grimmer influence. Marilyn Xais and John Burgon were judged the most oddly-dressed couple at the dance. An imposing pumpkin-shaped chariot was the center-piece for the Goofy Garb Get-together.

FOOTBALL DANCE Football players and coaches were honored at the an- nual football dance held November 8, 1964. The Sophomore Class, sponsoring the dance, decorated the g'fm to resemble a football field. The music was pro- vided by Dick Sheen s Dance Band and entertainment\" was emceed by Royce Gardner. Donn Griffith Dianna Lochri e King Queen One of the decorations for the Football Dance was an immense scoreboard made of tissue paper. Coach Tom Lovat was one of those to whom the Football Dance was dedicated. 166 Slow dances seemed the proper end to the enthusiasm of the football season.

HUSKY HOVVL Organized by the FHA, the Husky Howl was a girl's choice dance set in a western atmosphere Cowboy costumes, western style posters, and western decorations produced a bright, informal mood. The Castlemen provided the danceable music. Lafawn Barney Queen The Husky Howl was girls' choice as Decorators used paper napkins stuffed into wire mesh on shown by this poster- \"Grab your part- the wall of the girls gym to form a huge white stetson ner, ask him now, steer him down to the which enhanced the western theme of the dance. Husky Howl!\" \"Old West\" clothing was worn for this very informal dance. 167

SENIOR HOP Traditionally sponsored by the Senior Class, the Senior Hop was held on the night of December 11 . Unique decorations, which made use of wide streamers of cellophane, followed the theme of \"Camelot,\" adding to the enjoyment of those who attended the dance. Vaughn Sharp Linda Churich King Queen Dennis Halpin seemed to enjoy helping with decorating for the Senior Hop. Foil, cellophane, and chicken wire were molded into moodful scenery. At the Senior Hop, as at most of Hillcrest s dances, refreshments were served in the dance room. 168

On Friday, February 19, the returning alumni put on an as - sembly for the student body, and that night watched as Hillcrest defeated Bing- ham in a basketball game. With a theme of \" Where Majestic Mountains Tower, \" the dance after the game climaxed Hillcrest's first Homecoming Week. A huge bonfire was held on the night before the game to build spirit. Paper napkins stuffed in chicken wire formed snowy mountains which accented the winter theme. Some of the alumn1 presented an assembly to show 170 that they still remembered Hillcrest.

A cellophane waterfall gave the Homecoming Dance an outdoor's feeling. Dress-up apparel was decreed for this after-game dance. The Homecoming Dance, a popular event, saw many couples dancing and talking. Susan Rosen han and Dave Ashby were among the many who felt the spirited mood of the dance. 171

During the evening a floor show was presented, featuring Mickey Dowd, a talented alumnus; and the queen and her attendants were given their honors. IN CLOSING Closing a school year and ending the book we have made to portray it bring a convincing feeling of sadness. We will no longer see so often those we know nor be able to do with them as much as we have. Thrust into separate, diverse lives, we seem to be going out much more alone into a despairingly less friendly world. In short, it is over. But this strongly sentimental feeling is not very accurate. After all, many of this year's students will be back again next year to begin it all again. And three years of high school, or even all twelve years of our education are only the smallest part of the seventy years we expect to live. Far from being something in itself that is over, school has only been a small beginning part of our lives. So, however strong and emotional our nostalgia, however persuasive the air of sadness and fino must make ourselves realize that , ..~IIJN~flllllll. cially this one, is only a wro ginning.

INTRODUCING Imagination, skill, and time are the elements with which a yearbook staff must work to produce a definitive record of a school's activities. Each member of this staff is a composite part of the whole working unit, and success is insured only when this unit is efficiently organized around a nucleus of leadership. To the editor and assistant editor goes the responsibility of providing the nucleus around which the staff members may form into a close-knit, working group. Both Jim Lewis and Carma Jones assume these editor- ship positions with two years previous staff experience and the ability to center the whole staff's talents upon the important objectives of interestingly recording the events of 1965-66.
