Girls' State, a mythical 51st state, was held June 3-9 at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. Five outstand- ing Senior girls from Hillcrest were selected and sponsored by the American Legion Aux- iliary. The purpose of Girls' State is to educate girls in the responsibilities of Citizen- ship and government proce- dures. But it was more than just a political process-it was an opportunity to make new friends and participate in ex- citing activities. All elected officials were even \"sworn in\" to office. From Hillcrest, Teresa Reber and Stacy Shul- sen were elected state repre- sentatives, Jill Jenkins-may- or, Dayna Jones-city party chairman, and Patti Jensen- state voting delegate. The Excitement Of Politics Girls' And Boys' State Boys' State was held June 3- 9 at Utah State University in Logan. The nine Senior boys chosen from Hillcrest were sponsored by the American Legion. Each was selected for his great qualities in leader- ship, good character, and scholastic achievement. The boys elected their own city, county, and state officials. Since over five hundred at- tended, it was a great honor to be elected to an office. A legis- lature was formed to present and argue their own bills and form new laws. The Boys' Staters represented our school well in the elections. Wade Walker and Derek Pullan were elected to the two high- est offices-Governor and Lieutenant Governor. Other offices held by Hillcrest stu- dents are: Wayne Porter- County Auditor, Troy Wolff- Delegation Chairman, Tony Wood-City Commissioner, Lee Davis-State voting dele- gate, Jeff Davis-President of the Senate, Steve Neff-Coun- ty Sheriff, and Dave Patel- Party Chairman. Tune Into The Sound With. Girls Choir This year the Hillcrest girls Choir, under the direction of Mr. Leo Dean, has had great success. The choir consists of seventeen members, they are: Kimberly Anderson, Karcie Brewer, Lee Dicarro, Kathy Ellis, Lynne Hanson, Char- lotte Kuny, Cammy Maestas, Andrea Meiling, ]ana Millett, Kathy Price, Deena Sorrell, Amy Spencer, Pamela Trolin, Debbie White, Tammy Per- kins, Kristine Miller, and Co- rinne Vanalphen. They really are a talented group! Conversation is part of the claswork. At the Christmas concert their per- formance was great! The piano player provides the tunes for the group. Some teamwork is responsible for the good results. Girls Choir/ 225
