The state capital is Kuching which has a population of 650,000. Major cities include Miri (pop 300,000), Sibu (pop 250,000) , Bintulu (pop 180,000)

State population is 2.4 millions and is divided into 27 ethnic groups. The largest is the Iban (29%), Chinese (24%), Malay (23%), Bidayuh (8%), Melanau (6%), Orang Ulu & sub group (5%)

MIRI CITYMiri is the second largest city in Sarawak with a population of 300,00 people. Miri is the birthplace of Sarawak‟s and Malaysia‟spetroleum industry. The world famous Gunung Mri National Park, a half an hour flight from the city, is one of the favourite eco-tourism destinations. Miri is also the main tourist gateway for the Loagan Bunut National Park, Lambir National Park and NiahCave. Niah is one of Sarawak‟s smaller national parks, but it is one of the most important . The park‟s main claim to fame is itsrole as one of the birthplaces of civilization. MULU NATIONAL PARK (UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE)GunungMulu National Park near Miri, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that encompasses cavesand karst formations in a mountainous equatorial rainforest setting. The national park is named after Mount Mulu, the secondhighest mountain in Sarawak.GunungMulu National Park has the largest known natural chamber or room - Sarawak Chamber, found in GuaNasibBagus. It is2,300 feet (700 m) long, 1,300 feet (396 m) wide and at least 230 feet (70 m) high. It has been said that the chamber is so big thatit could accommodate about 40 Boeing 747s, without overlapping their wings. The nearby Deer Cave is one of the largest singlecave passages in the world, if not the largest.Other notable caves in this area are Wind Cave, and Clearwater Cave; which contains parts one of the world's largestunderground river systems and is believed to be the largest cave in the world by volume at 30,347,540 m³.Some caves are not opened to public.
