Description: Criminology may sound, initially, like a very concentrated field; however, the truth is that there are a number of different elements that play into the genre of criminology. As a result, there are a number of different careers that an individual will be able to consider when they investigate the life and options of one who works in the field of criminology. For all the many job opportunities and career paths that exist for those who are interested in the field, the field can be slightly difficult to break into for a person. This is due in part to the fact that the inquiring person needs to be well-rounded when it comes to education, but also because the person does typically need a good amount of schooling in order to be considered as a qualified candidate for these types of jobs.

Examining Careers in CriminologyCriminology may sound, initially, like a veryconcentrated field; however, the truth is thatthere are a number of different elements that playinto the genre of criminology. As a result,there are a number of different careers that anindividual will be able to consider when theyinvestigate the life and options of one who worksin the field of criminology. For all the many jobopportunities and career paths that exist forthose who are interested in the field, the field

can be slightly difficult to break into for aperson. This is due in part to the fact that theinquiring person needs to be well-rounded when itcomes to education, but also because the persondoes typically need a good amount of schooling inorder to be considered as a qualified candidatefor these types of jobs.One of the most obvious careers that willtypically pop into the minds of people who arethinking about crimes would be the profession ofa police officer. This is a very well respectedfield and does not require as much training andschooling as some other fields might.Applicants will need to be tested in a number ofways prior to being offered a position, and insome more urban and populated areas there is amore desperate need for qualified police officers.As a result, there is slightly more competitionthan there may be in a small town that is lookingto hire police officers.

A drug policy advisor needs to do many thingsdepending on their field of concentration. Someof these advisors need to be able to look at trendsand crimes over a period of time, and then weighthis information against the rest of theinformation that the individual has needed toresearch. In some cases, this can include thenumber of deaths as a result of the drug and thenumber of violent crimes that have taken place inan area involving the drug as an instigator in thecrime. By looking at this information, and alsoat how much annually is spent on the drug fordifferent demographics, a drug policy advisor canmake some suggestions regarding the medication ordrug. Sometimes there are no negativerepercussions as a result of the drug, but inother cases policies need to be put in place inorder to place restrictions for the good of thepublic and the welfare of citizens.Other productive careers also include crimeintelligence analysts, advocates on behalf of the

consumer, private crime prevention leaders, andindividuals that are working corrections. Thesemany careers require different and specificlevels of schooling before the individualcandidate can be seen as qualified for the job.Cost of education varies depending on where anindividual attends school in order to receivetheir education and how long they are required totheir university.Careers in Criminology are not just open withinthe United States for individuals, but areactually located in different areas around theworld. Different laws are established bydifferent governments, so not all individualsqualified to work in the field of Criminologywithin the United States could do so in otherareas of the world. Still, individuals that arequalified in different areas can broaden theirsearch options and range by looking at careersoutside their geographic location.
