Description: This report is on the Tech Fest organized on 29th April 2014 by Professor and Head of the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department Dr. E. KRISHNAKUMAR who was extremely well supported by his Colleagues Professors Mr. MANORANJAN KUMAR (Head of Medical Electronics Department), Mr. HAMEEM SHANAVAS (Asst HOD of ECE Department), Mr. NISHANTH P (Aerospace Engineering Department), Mr. BHANUPRAKASH (Civil Engineering Department), Mr. VINOD (Chemical Engineering Department) and two students both by name Punith along with coordinators from all different Departments. The organisation efforts was in a very minimal budget of just 10% of expenses in the earlier years by the same Institution. The event conducted by active interactions and participation by 14 different Departments had special appreciation from Management (Chairman, Adviser, Principal, Vice Principal and others) along with the excitement shared by students, faculties and other staffs in the Institution MVJCE, Bangalore.

“VerTechX 5.0” – A summit of Innovation and Technology National Level Technical FestivalVerTechx is a National Level Technical Extravaganza organized by MVJ College of Engineering - aplatform for young engineers to portray their talents and creativity. We are proud to say thatthis National Level Technical Festival has 15 technical events this time being conducted inBangalore. Thirteen departments involving Technology and Management streams display theircapabilities, excitement and full energy at this TECHFEST on 29th April 2014.The Program is organized with handpicked special events from different Departments alongwith Paper presentations in four different streams namely Electronics (Electronics &Communications, Electrical & Electronics, Telecommunications, Medical Electronics, BioTechnology), Mechanical (Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical), Computers (Computer Science,Information Science, MCA) and Management (MBA, Industrial Engineering Management) withattractive Certificates, Goodies, Prize Money of Rs 1 lakh.VerTechx is planned to satisfy the urge for Knowledge, Skills, and Latest Trends in EmergingTechnologies and Research ideas in various fields as a package filled with lot of creativity, thrill,excitement and fun for a whole day.“VerTechX5.0” will be inaugurated by Dr. S. Kishore Kumar, Additional Director, GTRE, DefenseResearch and Development Organisaiton, Bangalore on 29th April 2014 at 10.00 AM. Theinaugural function will be presided over by the Principal Dr. K.S. Shanmukharadhya and will havethe esteemed presence of beloved Chairman Mr. M. J. Balachandar, Adviser Professor RamaPrabhu, Vice Principal Ms. Gayathri and Director Mr. Varun.The one day technical fest will give the students an opportunity to witness a wide range oftechnical events ranging from conventional paper presentations and quizzes to fun filledactivities such as robotics, gaming and designing to name a few. The paper presentation eventwas organized in order to give due recognition to staff and students who have put down theirideas in writing and ready to present it to the world.Department of Aeronautical Engineering is organizing an event named ”HYDRO ROCKETRY”. water rocket and launch pad. The prizes are awarded on the basis of maximum range andendurance.“BIOGYAAN” is an event being organized by the Department of Biotechnology, as a Quizcompetition with multiple rounds namely Elimination Round, Spell Check, Rapid Fire, VisualRound and the final round.The Department of Chemical Engineering is organizing an event “CHEMATRON” where theparticipants have to look for clues and solve riddles placed around the campus and identify thecompounds required for the reaction and perform the experiment. Each clue will lead to thenext clue. A team which solves all clues and perform experiments first will be winning the event.The Department of Computer Science is organizing an event “COMPO-MANIA”. This eventallows the participants to explore wider range of search capabilities. The participants will betested on their knowledge of the current technical affairs, efficiency to use the internet as wellas their coding abilities. The event consists of mainly three rounds. The first round consists ofPICTURE QUIZ where the participants are tested on their technical general knowledge and theprevalent affairs. The second round consists of providing the participants with ten tasks relatedto INTERNET USAGE in which they are asked to fulfill it in the minimum possible time. The thirdround consists of a face-off between the selected teams who will be asked to TRACE ANDDEBUG two programs each. Judgment criterion for this event is the completion time. In the firstand second round, the participants shall be judged based on objective type - only the top tenteams with most correct answers from the 1st round are qualified for the next round. Theparticipants with faster search ability from the second round are qualified for the 3rd round. Inthe 3rd round, the participants will be judged based on programming skills.The Department of Civil Engineering conducts the event Deckster (Card Structure). In this event,one can do more than just play a game of poker with a deck of cards. Use your imagination andskill by creating the strongest and most innovative card structures. Make a card structure withthe given materials using all your imagination. The strongest, most attractive and compellingstructure wins. Round 2 – The selected students from round 1 will be given 2 hours time andwithin that time they can create any structure based on their imagination.Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering is organizing an event is “ROBOWARS which is about the time of reckoning nears, as wars are no more confined to humans. Inthis event, the robots will be ready to drive their armor-clad mechanisms as the show begins.The death match will be set and the optimist primes and megatons will be pitted against eachother. But only one of them will be surviving the mortal combat. Every one’s eyes will befocused on one question - can your robot survive the test of time? Maximize your torque andpunch with panache. Each team will have to make a manual, wired or wireless robot. Winnerwill emerge as one who defeats the other robot in this battle with his specialized skills.Department of Electrical & Electronics is organizing the event “ROBO SOCCERS”, an event similarto FIFA world cup with slight modifications, but one needs to play the game by controlling one’srobot. Use the technique to kick the ball using your bot. All you need to have is good designing& controlling skills. This event will be held on a common arena, but the final round will be on aspecial arena. Event is divided into 4 stages: Elimination Round, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals & theFinal crash run. Robo Soccer is thus another innovative event that challenges the creativity inyou. Mastering this event also need special skills.Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is organizing an event named“PRODUCT LAUNCH” ,where one can aspire to be the next Advertising Honcho? Get yourcreative skills and jingle your way to convince the Ad Makers of today. Product launch is aimedto bring out the Smart Marketing skills, Implementation of Innovative skills, Ideology etc. A teamof maximum 4 participants are allowed. The first round will see the participant’s concept to sella product of their own by word of mouth only for 2 minutes. The Product would be given by thecoordinates for the Pre Final and Final round only. Pre Final and Final round participants arerequired to come up with a slogan, a jingle, 2 print ads and a 2 min movie. Participants will haveto prepare a presentation using MS PowerPoint, Photoshop. Obscene and vulgarcontent/language will be leading to disqualification. The presentation expects a maximum of 6slides and minimum of 4 slides. First round is connectors and spiders , Second round is Quiz completionand final round is code jumble. It is team event and maximum of 2 in a team. In the first roundtotal of 20 teams will be selected for the next round. In connectors and spiders a sequence ofpictures will be shown which will depict a personality. Team with maximum of correct answerswill qualify for the next round. Second round is quiz round, every question has 10 point and passquestion answered will be awarded 5 points. Maximum scorer of correct answers will qualify forthe next round. In the final roun, jumbled code will be given and participants should debug theprogram and arrange it in the required form to obtain the output. As mentioned in the Rulesand Regulations the participants will be judged.Department of Mechanical Engineering organizing the event “AUTO QUIZ” which is a quizzingevent. Participants will be tested on their knowledge about automobiles and the current trendsin the automotive sector. This will consist of 3 rounds. The qualifier – abstract/Audio visual /connect on the buzzer – final round. : 2 participants per team. The team with the most pointswins.Department of Medical Electronics organizing the” The VerTechx Race 5.0”, is a technical gamein which teams of maximum of four persons, race around the campus in competition with otherteams. Contestants strive to arrive first at destination at the end of each leg of the race to winprizes and to avoid coming in last, which carries the possibility of elimination or a significantdisadvantage in the following leg. Clues provided in each leg lead the teams to the nextdestination or direct them to perform a task, together. These challenges are related to scienceand mathematics. Teams are progressively eliminated until three teams are left.Department of Telecommunication Engineering had their event, “ROBORACE” Design amanually controlled ROBOT that has capacity to cover maximum distance in shortest possibletime, challenging the hurdles and be one of the best opponents. Think your robot can overcomeany obstacle-big or small in the least of time. DECKSTER Organised by Department of CV, on 29-04-2014 at CIVIL ENGG Department (Drawing Hall) Departmentof Civil Engineering organized the event Deckster in Civil Drawing Hall. Theevent started around 12.30 PM. About 34 teams (Two students/team) participated in firstround. Out of this six teams qualified for final round. Prof. R Muralidhara was the judge for thefirst round. The event was well organized by students of of civil engineeirng department. The final round started at 1.15 PM and students were asked to make structures basedon their imagination. This round was for 2 hours. Prof. Ravikant Talluri was the judge for theevent. The evaluation criteria was based on stability, aesthetics and height/area ratio. ROBO WARS Organised by Department of ECE on 29-04-2014 at Ground near Old Administration BuildingROUND 1:It was a League round. The league consisted of 10 teams. It started around 2:00 pm.First thebots were cheeked using weighing machine.There were 30 participants for this round. The teachers in charge were MN Praphul (referee)and Lakshmeesha J. The war timings was 180 seconds.6 teams were shortlisted from this roundwith the help of student co coordinators.ROUND 2:This round was quarter finals. The war timings was reduced to 120 seconds. The 4 teams wereshort listed from this round.ROUND: 3Round 3 was a semi finals. The war was made tougher and the timings was reduced to 90seconds. Finally 2 teams were shortlisted.ROUND: 4Round 4 was finals. The final war was sparked. The timings were reduced to 60 seconds. ROBO SOCCEROrganised by Department of EEE on 29-04-2014 at Ground near Old Adminstration BuildingDepartment of electrical engineering conducted Robo Soccer event as a part of vertechx 5.0 on29.04.14.The event started at 11.00 AM, which was inaugurated by M.Brindha,HOD,EEE andended at 3 PM. A total of 11 team’s participated in the event and 4 rounds were conducted.The program was monitored by faculty coordinator M.Pala Prasad Reddy.Round 1: It was an elimination round. There Round 4: Final round is conducted betweenwere 11 teams participated. We taken one the two teams. PRODUCT LAUNCH Organized by Department of Industrial Mechanical EngineeringProduct launch hosted by the IEM department as a part of Vertex 5.0 began at 11.00 am. Theconnotation of the event was to put forth an advertising platform for the participants. The judges wereMr. G.L.Chandrashekhar and Mr. Naveen Bala.The event had 3 rounds. The inception of the event was with-“sell it”, there the participants had toprevail upon the judges to buy their product. This was followed by, “show it”, where in the participantshad to come up with a poster and jingle for their own product. Lastly, “make us buy it”, where in a shortvideo clip delineating their own product had to be adduced. 8 teams took part. The total number ofparticipants was 25.The event received commendable response with active participation of the students. AUTO QUIZ Organized by Department of Mechanical Engineering Students from MVJ College of Engineering stepped away from their studies last Tuesday, April 29th, to take part in a groundbreaking new event “AUTO QUIZ” in VertechX5.0 2014. The Quiz module provides a powerful and complex tool for assessment. In general, quizzes help to determine what students have learned. A well-designed test can give critical information about a student's understanding of the Mechanical subjects. Total 34 teams were there with 67 participants. There were 4 main rounds having questions about Mechanical and Aerospace stream. First was qualifier round from which top 15 teams entered the next round. Second round was filtration round in which 10 teams qualified and in third round which was audio visual round 5 teams were selected and final round was rapid fire round from which top 2 teams got winner and runner-up prize. Winner Team- Adarsh R, Harish (Aeronautical Department) Runner-up Team- Vigneshwaran J, Srinivas (Mechanical Department) We are very thankful to Mr. Hari Prasad who judged this event by giving his valuable time. The faculties those who have organized this event was Harshla Katole and Nandkishore Singh Thakur from Mechanical Department and the students those who helped in organizing this event were Subhadeep Paul, Abdul Zameer Ahmed, Praveen K C Reddy, Vishnu Ramakrishnan and Virendra Kumar Yadav. Volunteers were Sumit K Joshi, Vishal, Ateeb Hafiz, Amit Kumar and Abhishek Kumar. VERTECHX RACE Organized by Department of Medical Electronics The department of Medical Electronics conducted a Vertechx Race 5.0 at the national level technical fest vertechx 5.0 in M.V.J.college of engineering, bangalore-560067, on 29th of April, 2014. Duly supported by our beloved HOD, Mr. Manoranjan Kumar. Worked together towards making this event a grand success. Students from various colleges participated enthusiastically with a variety of ideas. Event Coordinator (Staff) was Ms. Roopashree B.G, and student coordinators were Vinay Rathul D, Altaf ahmed s k, Kumar Kaushik (viii sem, dept of ML), and Poorna , Priyanka, Soham sen (viii sem,Dept of ML). Anymalpractices with the volunteers will lead to the termination of the particular team from therace. Solving of a problem is related to particular answer and is not subjected to multiplechoices of the answers created by the participants.
