["Lacrosse (Girls) Guidelines 2023: Activity Chairpersons: \u2022 Justin Pitcher (Assistant. Principal) \u2022 Craig Morris (Assistant Principal) \u2022 Chris Baer (Assistant Athletic Director) Schools involved in Region VI Lacrosse: \u2022 Brighton, East, Highland, Olympus, Park City, and Skyline. Murray and Salt Lake School for Performing Arts do not compete in Lacrosse Rules Clinic: See Lacrosse information slide show from UHSAA \u2022 https:\/\/www.uhsaa.org\/glacrosse \u2022 Please refer to \u201cGeneral Policies\u201d in the Region VI Manual for all other region rules, and the UHSAA Handbook for all UHSAA rules, and the NFHS Lacrosse handbook\/rules book. Start Times: \u2022 The recommended start times for Lacrosse are 7:00 pm for Varsity games and 5:00 for Junior Varsity games. However, the actual start time for each game will be determined by the host school and are subject to change. Supervision \u2022 The administration of the home school will be available to supervise varsity home games. Reporting Scores: \u2022 Home school is responsible to report scores to MaxPreps and Deseret News on game days. Region Trophy \u2022 Region Trophy presented to the team(s) with the best win-loss record. If there is a tie, it will be determined by RPI. All-Region VI Girls Lacrosse Team Selection: \u2022 1st Team All-region will be voted on by the coaches at the end of the season and as the state tournament begins. The 1st team will be 12 players by position (4 attack, 3 midfield, 4 defense, 1 goalie). No Honorable Mention team will be selected. Orchestras \u2013 3 adjudicators Clinicians may work with each band\/orchestra following its performance at the discretion of the festival host. Clinic sessions will not be adjudicated and will not be rated. Sight-reading for concert bands, jazz bands, and orchestras is optional at the discretion of the festival host. Adjudicators will be paid as per the UHSAA standard adjudicatory pay scale. 2. All large ensemble members are expected to be audience participants for at least three performances before or after their own performance. Music educators are encouraged to enforce this guideline through their own policies. 3. Each school may submit unlimited entries to the Solo and Ensemble Festival. However, entries beyond twenty (20) (Band, Orchestra) should be prioritized to allow each school adequate representation. 54","VOCAL 1. Adjudicators will be contracted for festivals as follows: A. No team may play more than twenty-two (22) games during the entire season. a. A single day tournament will count as one game with a maximum of four (4) games. b. A multiple day tournament (2-3 days) will count as two (2) games towards contest limitations. c. A maximum of eight (8) games may be played in a multiple day tournament. 2. All region varsity games shall begin at 3:30 p.m. a. Games will be a full seven (7) innings. b. If the score is tied at the end of seven (7) innings, the international tie-breaker rule will be in effect. c. The 10-run rule will be in effect after the fifth inning. d. The 15-run rule will be in effect after the third inning. 64","3. All JV games will immediately follow varsity games (same day, same site). a. A 1 1\/2 hour time limit will be in effect for all sub-varsity games. No new innings will be started after 1 \u00bd hrs. b. A team may only score six (6) runs an inning in a JV game. c. Rules for JV play will be agreed upon by the region in order to provide a developmental atmosphere and to accommodate facility conflicts. 4. The visiting team will take the field at 3:00 pm; the home team will take the field at 3:15 pm. 5. The home team will be responsible for: 1. Providing an official scorekeeper (a responsible adult) 2. Providing two (2) new game balls 3. Paying the officials 4. Field markings, maintenance, and management 5. Alerting the media with games results including entering score on MaxPreps 6. Postponed games will follow the UHSAA suspended game procedures. a. The home team will call their opponent and the officials by 12:00 noon. b. Game will be rescheduled on the first available weekday as agreed upon by the involved coaches and approved by the involved principals. c. Priority should be given to region games. d. In the first round of region play, the postponed game may be \u201cflip-flopped\u201d to the visiting field if it is deemed playable. The second round field will be reversed. 7. Teams agree to accept all National Federation Rules. 8. One region trophy will be awarded to the first place team. 9. All seniors nominated for Academic All-State will receive Academic All-Region. Seniors who have a minimum 3.75 overall GPA will be selected to Academic All-Region Team. 10. Nominations for MVP - Coaches vote to select MVP. Head coaches will nominate eligible players and all region coaches will vote to select the region MVP. 11. Senior recognition day will be kept to a ten (10) minute maximum according to general policy. 12. All-Region schools will be required to have a safety base. 13. Athletic Directors at each school will be responsible for producing and awarding All- Region certificates. 14. Tie \u2013Breaker will follow the region and state tie breaker. (RPI ranking) 15. Individual Events i. 1 judge for every 4 IE competitors or fraction thereof b. Debate Events i. 1 judge per 2 Policy Teams or fraction thereof ii. 1 judge per 4 Public Forum or LD entries, or fraction thereof. A team bringing a full slate of PF and LD entries must bring 3 total PF\/LD judges. c. Congress i. 1 Congress judge for each school with Student Congress. d. Current Head Debate coach should not judge unless approved by other head coaches. Under no circumstances will head coach judge his\/her own team. e. Judges will be paid by the Region. Per Region VI Board of Managers\u2019 approval, judges will be paid $35 total for Saturday morning IE events (must be available for 3 rounds) and $50 for Saturday afternoon\/evening debate events (must be available for 4 rounds). Congress judges will be paid at the $50 rate because sessions last from the morning through the afternoon (must be available for all sessions of congress.) 7. Registration Deadline \u2013 All schools wishing to compete must submit their region registration via tournament software no later than Monday, February 22, 2020. Along with registration, each coach has the option to submit 21 impromptu topics to the person assigned by the tournament director to coordinate impromptu topics (7 famous quotations, 7 social issues, 7 Events\/Issues Currently in the News). In case of challenge, copies of oratories and bibliographies must be printed and present at the region meet. 8. Region coaches meeting \u2013 All schools competing at region must respond in a timely manner to electronic communications and votes on region issues. After two attempts to reach a coach, region rep will assume they do not want to vote and non-responding schools will be bound by the decision of those who respond within a reasonable time-frame (2 to 5 days depending on the urgency of the decision.) Last minute decisions will be discussed and voted upon at the region meet. 69","9. Debate Pairings a. All Rounds will be paired using tournament software if available b. Debate rounds will be paired by the following formula: i. The first round of debate will be randomly paired. ii. Round two will be paired High-Low. iii. Round three (if coaches agree it is a final round) will be paired with High-High matching. If coaches agree that round 3 is a preliminary round, it will be paired with High-Low matching if there are fewer than 20 entrants and High-High matching if there are 20 or more entrants. iv. Round four (if it is necessary) will be paired with High-High Matching. 10. Individual Event Pairings a. Random selecting shall be done in each event as needed, for all three rounds. b. Where possible, competitors should not compete against any other member of their own school\u2019s team. c. Round results will be based on rankings. Ratings will not be considered. There will be no ties in rankings by judges. 11. Congress Pairings a. Congress will compete in two, 2.5-hour sessions. Legislation will be drawn from the state docket. These must be chosen and approved by all region coaches. The docket will be released at least two weeks prior to the tournament. b. In Student Congress, UDCA rules will apply. c. Where possible, a panel of judges provided by participating schools will be added to determine final rankings. If possible, the parliamentarian in each House will be unaffiliated. In addition to the parliamentarian, there will be at least two additional judges per session. These judges may not have a personal connection to students in the event they are judging. These judges will change for the second session; parliamentarians will remain for both sessions. All judges will score all competitors. d. Final results will be based on rankings. Ratings will not be considered. Rankings will be 1-12. If there are more than 12 competitors in a section, those ranked beyond 12 will tie for 12th place. e. In the event there are more than 21 competitors, there will be deemed enough competitors for two Houses. In that case, it will be necessary to hold a 2-hour super session. The top 50% of the competitors in Congress in each House will advance to the super session. In this event, quar- tiling will be determined by rankings in each House after the second session. 70","12. Awards a. There will be overall region trophies awarded at the Region Debate Tournament for 1st place and 2nd place. Additionally, there will be a Debate Sweepstakes trophy and a Speech Sweepstakes trophy awarded. b. The following number of medals will be needed. Each medal will say the title of the event and 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place designation and will be given to the top three competitors in each event: i. 6 Policy Debate Medals ii. 3 Lincoln Douglas Debate Medals iii. 6 Public Forum Debate Medals iv. 3 Original Oratory Medals v. 3 Impromptu Medals vi. 3 Foreign Extemporaneous Medals vii. 3 National Extemporaneous Medals viii. 3 Student Congress Medals c. 10 additional blank medals will be provided for possible ties in any or all events. 13. Budget a. As stated in section 6f above, Judges will be paid by the Region. Per Region VI Board of Managers approval, IE judges will be paid $35 total for Saturday morning (available for 3 rounds) and Debate and Congress judges will be paid $50 for judging Saturday afternoon and evening (Debate judges must be available for a minimum of 3 elimination rounds and a final round; Congress judges available for up to 3 legislative sessions). b. The region representative will receive $300 to provide for judge\/coach hospitality. c. Janitorial services for host school of the Region Tournament will be paid up to $300. 71","14. General Guidelines a. In speech and debate competition, each individual competitor is limited to ten tournaments per year, excluding region, state, national qualifying tournaments and UDCA national competitions. b. Debate Topics for Region Meet will be the same topics used at the State Meet. Extemporaneous topics will be drawn from December through February 2020-2021 school year NFHS topics. c. The number of slots filled by a team at the entry deadline cannot be increased at the tournament. Name changes are allowed until the tournament begins. d. If forfeits can be fixed, attempts will be made to do so but shall not be at the expense of delaying the tournament. e. Sweepstakes points will be calculated to match the state sweeps quartiling system. f. Ties will not be broken; each quar-tile will be chosen by marking the number which least skews all brackets, to the advantage of students. i. The top 50% or 10 students or event teams, whichever is greater, will be outright qualifiers for State. g. Laptops\/tablets are permissible in Policy, Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Student Congress and Extemporaneous events in line with the state requirements for Internet usage.
