Charlonians Sometimes I got so tired of early morning practices. Between frostbitten toes. running around in curlers and wornout muscles. I figured I'd had about enough. Yet when try- outs and all the hassles were behind me . when we performed and marched to applause . I knew it was worth it and was ready to start over. Especially during parades. when we 'd split and astonish everyone. It was a year packed full of emotions; Mrs. Williams· famous parties. marching in borrowed uniforms, trying to sell 20 lbs. of candy and never quite guessing who my secret pal was. But it all went too fast and at our banquet dinner I realized how close I was to everyone. The year left me with a lot more than just knowing how to \"bubble\". ADVISO RS: R e n ~e Pay. Somehow, trying for seven gold medals seemed a little out of my reach. But competing in ·the Olympics was something you didn't have to do in high school. so I settled for growing a mustache and joining the swim team. I must admit that I was good at swimming. I didn't even mind the practices after school at Mt. Jordan's pool. The only time I really felt like I'd done something athletic or graceful was when I was in water. Golf There were people who thought I was really crazy because I chased a little white ball around a golf course. Actually, I wasn't crazy.
