FOREWORD Jordan graduates of other years have left behind themenviable and inspiring records of achievements in scholar-ship, athletics, journalism, dramatics, and social activities.May we who are attending Jordan High School this yearfollow in their footsteps, and equal, or possibly better, someof their good records. This Beetdigger is a graphic pictureof our achievements this year. May the leaves of this 1936Beetdigger, which we now idly turn as carefree and happyhigh school pupils, become an inspiration to us in the moreserious years ahead when we are pushing steadily towardthe higher goals in life.

DEDICATION Utah's wonderlands, known far and wide, rank in scenic beautywith the famed Alps of Switzerland. Each year thousands of tourists visit Bryce Canyon, Zion Canyon ,Grand Canyon of the Colorado, Cedar Breaks, and Grandaddy Lakes,to revel in the colorful panorama of natural formations, or to marvelat the most beautiful sunset in north America, sunset over Great SaltLake. Other scenic spots which annually draw thousands of eagertourists are: Fish Lake, Zion National Park, Bear Lake, TimpanogosCave, and Rainbow Bridge, each one, to the exploring motorist, a castleor a Ia byri nth of a thousand wonders. \"A thing of beauty is a joy forever.\" So sang a poet of old. Sowould any poet, who had an inborn love of the beautiful, sing as hegazed on Nature's artistic handiwork in Utah's rugged mountains anddeep canyons. To Utah's wonderlands of rare and gorgeous beauty, we dedicatethis 1936 issue of the Beetdigger.

ADMINISTRATION

DR. C. N. JENSEN Superintendent Jordan High School was organized with cedain obligations. Theseobligations are to train students with broad culture, with desire toattain vocational competency, and with capacity to make up the dutiesof American Citizenship on completion of high school work. The faculty has always been chosen with these obligations in mind. The teachers are mature and scholarly; they possess personality and~eaching ability. They have an abiding faith that great governments,to survive, must rest upon an educated populus. I am sure that youstudents who are now leaving and who still remain, have caught JordanHigh's fine school atmosphere, appreciate the training you are receiv-ing under such leadership, and are growing day by day into respon -sibility to meet the situations you will find upon leaving school. It is our faith and hope that you will become men and womenreflecting the great ideals for which the institution was established. We congratulate you on what you are achieving in Jordan High. C. N, JENSEN. Pa ge 14

L. W. NIELSEN Principal There are significant reasons why the yearbook should become a real part of student and faculty life. Future years bring back into our lives the influences and memories of earlier days. The circle of our friends becomes enlarged on year- book day. A distinctly intense pleasure is evidenced when all mingle to exchange signatures and felicitations in our yearbooks. The more circles of friends we have the richer our lives become, especially as time marches on, and as we, perhaps, cultivate these friendships so made until they become richer and more binding. Life without friends is poor indeed, while with friends, it is rich beyond measure. L. W. NIELSEN.Poge 15

Stanley Bennion, Beth Anderson, Beulah Burgon, and NormaTesch are serious-minded, capable, hard-working pupils. Through their untiring efforts,we have had a most pleasant year. We are grateful to them for their good workand we extend to them our sincere thanks for our success in school affairs. Theyhave grasped every opportunity that came their way and their united spirit wasan important factor in making Jordan a cooperative institution. Like the careful driver who never balks his horse, the Student BodyCourt has used diplomatic firmness in encouraging pupils to obey and sustainthe laws of the school. Tactfully they have maintained discipline without antagonizing any ofthe well-meaning but thoughtless students who have violated the school codeof good behavior. THE STUDENT COUNCIL Every school needs an efficient, capable legislative body for successfulstudent government. Our own student council have been the \"Middle Men\"of the school. They have aided the teachers and students in maintainingdiscipline and school morale by passing wise laws for school government. Two council members represent each first period class, who elects them. Through the helpful cooperation of this legislative group we bring toa close another chapter in Jordan history knowing that we have had asuccessful year. Poge 20

Yet they are sad at departing from their beloved school. Behind them they will leave their teachers and faithful classmates. Before them lie new opportunities. Some of the graduates plan to enter higher institu- tions of learning; others will train to do stenographic work; more will find places as trademen, farmers, or mechanics; all will carry on as Beetdiggers of old Jordan. Probably a considerable number will return next year and swell the growing number of post graduates who enroll at Jordan each year. Led by their officers, Morris Morgan, president; Beth Todd, vice-president; and Duane Rasmussen, secretary; the seniors have made this year really successful. The annual senior functions, the senior play, the Senior Progressive Party and the Senior Hop, made social and dramatic history.P<'lge 26

To all appearances the Junior Class we re the toughest fellows in the school. Among them were shy, timid girl s and sheepish boys , bashful a nd uncertain wh at to do. Later events proved that these new pupils were not wild and unruly \"scalawags,\" but in reality healthy, in- terested boys and girls eager to begin the school year right. Following the example of the serious-minded seniors, the juniors have demonstrated that \"Newcomers\" can succeed . With high enthusiasm, they hailed the dawning of a new life at Jordan. The junior assembly, Junior Prom, and the achievements of the junior scholarship and athletics have lifted the class to its proper place in t he high school world. Success to you all, juniors, and the best of luck on your journey over the rough roads to thA land of the proud and mighty seniors.Page 39
