The 'Diggers proved again, much to the embarrassment of their worthyopponents, that an abundance of willing, high-grade raw material, plus thetop coaching staff of the state, plus the whole-hearted support of a studentbody that has within it the same fighting spirit that manifests itself in all theteams that represent the Maroon-and-Grey, is a well-nigh unbeatable com-bination. After getting tripped by Butte and stomped on by Carbon, the maroon and greynudged, then pushed, then shoved, and finally crashed their way to their sixth districtcrown in seven years. But all was not clear yet, so Jordan's pint-sized human dynamosdug in with a second-half drive that would have left Demosthenes speechless, andsent Ogden's Bengals home with hanging heads and tails between their legs, wonderingabout the justice of it all. This set the stage for a return battle with their pre-seasonconquerors from Carbon. The Beetdiggers, quick of foot and nimble of wit, brandished their beet knivesand soon had their plodding brontosaurus foes cut down to their own size, provingtheir superiority beyond a question of a doubt. Now the coveted championship cup rests proudly in Jordan's already flush trophycase. 67

BASKETBALL• John Mazuran LeRoy Clayton Orvis Pollock George Pavich Bill Polson Reed Grant Jack Silcox Floyd Handley Brigham Gardner Bob Price Lowe// Thomson SUMMARY After a period of basketball drought, Jordan's ruthless Beetdiggers treated their fans to a Region 2 championship by virtue of an impressive pre-season string of 12 victories and no defeats and a league record of nine wins against one loss, and then went on to harvest a fourth position in the state. Th e Sandy lads, led by Captain Reed Grant, who was an unanimous choice for All -State hon - ors, suffered a defeat at the hands of Davis, a game in which three regulars saw no action, and a game which brought to light the mettle of our reserves. W e also dropped one to a white-hot crew from Box Elder. Statistics proved that the Maroon and Grey was the best offensive team in the state's annual casaba joust and many believe that the champi ons hip game was played by the teams who finished fourth and seventh.72
