What is menopause? MENOPAUSE When a woman has gone 12 months without a period, that’s the de nition of menopause. If only it were that simple, right? When I talk to women (lots of women!), it’s rarely that simple. Perimenopausal Courney Lo, PA | Founder women complain of a variety of symptoms: sleepless nights, mood swings, irregular bleeding, night sweats, hot ashes, weird urinary symptoms, dryness, lack of mental clarity, weight uctuations, and lack of arousal for years before menopause. And it’s not just 12 months after their last period. Since our hormones decline slowly starting in the 30s, these symptoms can last a decade before the o cial “menopausal” date. So many women get depression diagnosis or think it’s just aging. But ladies, that’s generally NOT the case.
