About the JDRF The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading global organisation funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF strives to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until they achieve a world without T1D. This foundation is the only organisation with the scientific resourc- es, regulatory influence, and a working plan to better treat, prevent, and eventually cure T1D. They fund millions of dollars in T1D research each year and their current research projects span 17 countries. JDRF was created and continues to be led by people with person- al connections to type 1 diabetes. JDRF keeps its promise of “less until none” meaning, they promise to progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes from the lives of those living with the disease until it is no longer a threat to them or their families. This doll’s house raffle is only one example of the many events and fundraising projects that JDRF chapters take part in each year. I love being a guest speaker on radio and TV so I can help empower people, so that is how I got into the film and show “business.” I cre- ated, produced, and “starred” in films to empower people. So I didn’t have the money to buy a doll’s house kit or even wood. But I was determined to be of service, so I visited the lumberyard, the pharmacy, the busi- ness centre, the fabric store, a miniature shop, and a hobby shop and explained what I wanted to accomplish. Everyone was so kind. Malibu Lumbar Yard gave me paint as well as wood for the walls and the roof shingles. I used a light-col- D O L L S H O U S E W O R L D JANUARY 2016 67
