The househad to be Victorian in style;it had to be my own design;everything about it had to behandmade; it had to be ornateand as authentically detailedas possible, and it had tobe built with materials thatrequired no power tools. Finally, I put pencil to paperand drew a basic sketch of“There are thirty-twohandmade windows, twelve of which havehandmade stained glass.”what the house would looklike. Japanese geishasBSTYeaLuEcDouOpLLdSe French doll maker, Nathalie Mori, has made 1:12-scale Japanese geishas and they are très beau! By Deb Weissler. There is something about the French who grasp the concept of great flair like nowhere else in the world. Doll artist Nathalie Mori demonstrates this concept well despite being relatively new to the world of miniature dolls. Even when creating dolls that represent another culture, as is the case with Nathalie’s exquisite Geishas, there’s something unmistakably French that has been captured every nuance of Japanese cos- tuming, hairstyle, and poses. Like so many of us, Nathalie was drawn to the book Memoirs of a Geisha by American author Arthur Golden. His book, adapted to film in 2005, was an instant hit that grossed almost $163 Top and right: Natsumi was inspired by a photo found of a geisha with no make up. She was dipping her foot into a pool of water. Nathalie wanted to capture her pose because it was so lovely. The water in the pond is resin, she also built the small bridge. 66 American Miniaturist
