Creative thinking covers a large number and wide scope of subjects or areas. Hence, it requires skills, focus, and right behaviour for it. For this project, I have chosen to create concept art based on the video game, Call of Duty: Mobile. It was my intention to create concept art of my own character. Being a gamer, I already have the knowledge of Call of Duty: Mobile. It has been my basis in starting this project. However, starting the project like writing the introduction was the biggest challenge I have faced. It’s simply because I have so many ideas, which makes it quite difficult for me to start the process. I believe I already have the skills and techniques, but I still struggled with these areas because I can’t decide on which one to use or how to apply it. Another challenge that I have encountered in doing this project is having the right behaviour because it changes from time to time. There were times that I felt overwhelmed and there were times that I was motivated. My mental health and Autism Spectrum Disorder are contributing factors as well for these struggles. For my primary research, I have chosen to do a questionnaire and interview. With the questionnaire, not having that much knowledge about it, I created one which was not in-depth. I have sent it to only a few people I know because I felt awkward asking people to complete the questionnaire. Having reviewed my process, I eventually decided to create a new questionnaire, bearing in mind the final outcome I want to achieve. It was a last minute action, but I know it was the right thing to do. For the second questionnaire, I aimed to get at least 50 respondents. However, I did not realise that it would be a difficult process. I posted the questionnaire on social media and Microsoft Teams to get more respondents, but the number of respondents was not that much as I was expecting it to be. People didn’t seem to care and could not be bothered to complete a very simple questionnaire. Having said that, it also made me realise that maybe people were not actually interested in the subject rather than not wanting to complete the questionnaire. Whatever the reason is, I am still thankful that 16 respondents have given their time in completing my questionnaire. Thinking about it now, I should also have targeted a specific group as my respondents rather than getting the general public to respond. Here are the learning points for me when it comes to using questionnaire as a primary research: ● Make the questions straightforward to attract more respondents. ● Keep the questionnaire as short as possible. ● If possible, have a specific group of people as respondents. The second method I used for primary research is an interview. Initially, I planned to interview gamers on YouTube to get their feedback about Call of Duty: Mobile and for us to be able to exchange information about the game. However, it wasn’t that easy. I have contacted the individuals I planned to interview, but I didn't get any response. It
took me some time to find someone to interview. Fortunately, my mother has a work colleague who is a gamer, graphic designer and concept artist, and he agreed to do the interview even if it was a short notice. Technology has done great because we were able to do the interview through Teams, otherwise it would have been a challenge for us since my interviewee lives in London. Doing interviews is extremely difficult for me because of my Autism Spectrum Disorder. which makes my verbal communication skills really low. My learning points for using interview as a primary research are: ● Invite in writing the interviewee with enough notice and explain clearly what the interview is all about. ● Plan the questions carefully and make it simple and straight to the point. ● Listen attentively to the interviewee. ● Do not make the interviewee feel intimidated by the questions and your actions as interviewer. For the secondary research, it was a struggle because Call of Duty:Mobile is quite new. There have been no books written about it and no research done. To search for more information about Call of Duty:Mobile, I could depend only on blogs, reviews, word of mouth, and feedback from gamers on YouTube. In this case, I have chosen to get information from blogs and reviews. It has been helpful. However, the information is repetitive. My learning points for using blogs and reviews as secondary research are: ● Be attentive with all the details as they could become repetitive and irrelevant. ● Take only relevant information. It is very easy to be persuaded with so much irrelevant information. ● Check the credibility of the person who did the blog or the review. In general, the project has been enjoyable even if there have been challenges along the way. The process itself has been difficult because I also had to overcome my mental health issues. There have been delays along the way, especially writing the introduction. It’s because putting ideas together is one of my weaknesses along with my poor verbal communication and social skills. As I went through the process of completing this project, my brainstorming and organisation of ideas have improved. On the other hand, conceptualising art is my strength. I have a creative mind that I can always rely on. Competition for concept art in gaming is quite high. I find it quite hard to establish my unique selling point because there is too much concept art for gaming nowadays. Having said that, I’m confident that my final outcome is competitive and most probably, my unique selling point is the subtle details of my character and background. For this project, I know I could have done better. My recommendations would be: ● Thorough planning
● Time management, ensuring deadlines are met. ● Get feedback ahead of time so that if there are things that need to be changed in the final outcome, there will be plenty of time to do it. ● Understand what the project is all about so that when challenges arise, it will be easier to find solutions.
