the beginning It’s a time of unprecedented scale and pace of change in both the economy and the world of work. Which means there’s an urgent need to make sure that the ways we work, our workforce and workplace cultures champion better work, and working lives. The Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD) have identified ‘megatrends’ including working from home, flexible working, the pressure of greater workloads and the need to improve leadership and management skills. They say, ‘The pandemic has revealed a need for leaders who are strong of character, principled, calm and capable of leading an organisation through times of crisis. Now, more than ever, leaders need to lead with compassionate authority and deeply ingrained integrity.' Our Mission is to deliver the highest quality coach training and develop a global coaching community Very few of us have an innate ability to show all those facets of leadership. But we can all be taught to maximise our core leadership skills, and to develop the ones we don’t yet have, through effective, people-first coaching. Whether it’s finding time to praise your colleagues, to build their confidence when they’re working from home, or asking better questions; moving managers from ‘telling’ to ‘asking’ and maximising your ‘high value’ conversations, we have tailored programmes for all levels, whether you’re looking for one- to-one sessions or for group training. What are the benefits of coaching? After a long period of home working, and as we move to a more ‘hybrid’ set up long-term, we need to find ways to retain our best staff, encourage long-term focus and unlock positivity to re-ignite the joy of work. Coaching is an excellent tool to support individuals in your teams. They’re the ones with skills and experience, who have the potential to be game-changers if they can work on areas such as these, that might hold them back, given the past two years.
Coaching Is both an art and a science As a team, we’ve spent many years becoming experts in coaching, psychology and people development, and it’s our mission to share our knowledge to create better workplaces. From half- day workshops to a 6-month programme to become a coach, diversity and inclusion and executive coaching, to our new, virtual, Dare sessions, we really do have something for everyone The Coach House facilitated a series of courses for Active UK, specifically the Leader as Coach programme. It was not only enjoyable, informative but extremely impactful personally and professionally. It has led to us adopting and developing a leadership approach that is routed in empowerment and unlocking individual potential. We are still on the journey but with a set of skills that will be pivotal to our growth and success. Gemma Atkinson - Chief Operating Officer, Active International
becoming a coach a Graduate programme accredited by The Association for Coaching & International coaching federation There are various definitions about what being a coach is, but we believe, at its core, that coaching: 1. Is a managed conversation that takes place between two people 2. Aims to support sustainable change to behaviours or ways of thinking 3. Focuses on learning and development Coaching is a conversational process and a set of easily learned techniques. Many of us already have the skills needed to be a coach: the ability to listen, to ask questions and to summarise. From there, it’s a case of honing them to facilitate one-to-one conversations effectively. The only other thing you need. A desire to support others to achieve more of their potential. Learning to be a coach isn’t just great for your work life - many of the skills, tools and techniques you develop during the programme will be immediately transferable to all aspects of your life. managers & leaders leadership coaching The big change we’ve seen over the last decade is in leadership styles. Gone is the ‘command and control’ approach – we’re now focused on ‘transformation and empowerment’. Coaching can have a real impact when it comes to empowerment. As an example of why it’s important to invest in making coaching a key part of your firm’s leadership culture, we think international law firm Allen & Overy put it best. A senior partner there said... ‘As a senior leader, you have roughly 100 conversations a year that are of particularly high value — in the sense that they will change your life or the life of the person you’re talking to. We want to help you acquire the skills to maximise value in those 100 conversations, to unlock previously hidden issues, to uncover new options, and to reveal fresh insights.’ The benefits for your organisation range from having a more effective leadership style to embedding a coaching mindset and increasing in-house mental health support. Develop coaching as a leadership style – fast Our Leader as Coach programme, recognised by the Association for Coaching, is aimed at leaders, directors and senior managers. Each of the three modules (Coaching as a leadership style; The psychology of coaching and developing a coaching style), takes place on Zoom and lasts four hours. To receive the certificate, each person must attend these, together with three hours of self-study and six hours of coaching practice (in their team, as peers, or outside the organisation.) The leader will learn: When to use coaching and mentoring How to identify performance barriers and find solutions What creates behavioural change How to be more confident when delivering feedback Ways to have more influence in powerful conversations The super power of listening
Executive coaching Top sports people all have one thing in common: expert coaches to help them to maximise their ability and fulfil their potential. So why wouldn’t you take the same approach in business? There are many advantages of executive coaching, from goal setting and prioritisation to engagement and productivity, communication to effective people management. Plus, having an objective third party as a sounding board for our thoughts or dilemmas can reduce stress levels. Some of our typical executive coaching briefs include: Plan the first 100 days in a new or challenging role Evolve to meet new challenges Discover and grow your strengths to rise to the top Defining issues and team-building Research shows that two factors make a huge impact on the outcome of coaching: 1. Coach credibility 2. Coach compatibility. At The Coach House, we have over 20 years’ experience – and we’re double accredited, with the Association for Coaching and the International Coaching Federation. All our coaches have at least 5 years’ experience and regular professional coaching supervision. We know that chemistry between you and your coach is key, and as a boutique organisation, our clients are at the heart of what we do. Our team of twelve coaches means that we’ve got the flexibility to find you exactly the right fit, no matter what the change is that you’re looking for. Because good coaching is a two-way process – you’ll explore together what you want from coaching and how to achieve your objectives – whether they’re business-based or personal.
everyday coaching What are the challenges in your business? Your MD wants to foster a culture of inquiry, one in which communication is successful, input is valuable, and meetings are collaborative. You want to hold a session to introduce everyone to coaching. You want to start developing a coaching culture in your company and increase employee empowerment. You feel it is critical to provide your employees with the tools they need to start constructive coaching sessions the minute they return to work. Everyday Coaching is a hands-on, highly interactive half-day programme that displays how to have coaching conversations, explains why they are so effective, and then shows how to use what you've learned. The session was extremely enjoyable and interactive. The theory was brought to life with the help of the practical examples. Burson, Cohn & Wolfe's Lisa Cave
dare business challenges The last two years have challenged organisations in ways that no-one could have predicted. At The Coach House, we’ve been at the forefront of change, spending time with senior business leaders in executive coaching sessions and workshops, both online and in person. This has given us huge amounts of insight into the changes organisations have faced and taken on. We’ve also incorporated social, economic and organisational trends, to create a unique programme: Dare. Dare is designed to build the courage and confidence to do anything that you want to, creating the skills using a coaching approach. If you want to explore how to lead in a hybrid culture, understand the power of EQ, challenge the status quo, know how to leverage neuroscience to activate behaviour and build resilience and much more, then Dare is for you. Featuring a combination of group coaching with five live sessions, self-study, coaching practice, the Dare Development Plan and a 360 Strengthscope profile, all leaders will receive a certificate recognised by the Association for Coaching, and be eligible for student membership. What do the live sessions cover? The programme is underpinned by the 5Cs: Coaching, Courage, Confidence, Collegiate (Collaboration) and Challenge. The 2.5-hour virtual, interactive sessions are: Why should anyone be led by me? What is a leader of the future? How do you use coaching to lead? Is your EQ as good as your IQ? How have I changed? This is a fascinating, forward-thinking programme that helps to create a strong leadership culture.
