‘ The Vibrants ’ (Connecting NanaNanis) Foreword Smt. Sushi is a renowned writer in our Nana Nani and needs no introduction. She is now giving us a new magazine,E- magazine “ THE VIBRANTS “. I know her as a good natured Person with a versatile personality- writer, dramatist, actress, player and above all one who loves good humor. Her depth of knowledge in various fields is reflected in all her writings. The same will be reflected in the new magazine too. I hope it will be enjoyed and appreciated by all. உ ‘The Vibrants’ (Connecting NanaNanis) From the Editor’s Desk, My dear friends, Greetings from your friend, Sushi. Couple of months back, we browsed the subject of having a ‘e’ magazine for the residents of NanaNani. Even though delayed a little bit, now we have come up with a ‘e’ magazine named ‘ The Vibrants ‘ going with the name of our resident whatsapp group. January is a month of celebrations . So , here is ‘The Vibrants’ wishing you all a Very Happy Pongal and Happy Republic Day. This is just the beginning – So we have come out with a trial version of our own ‘e’ magazine ‘The Vibrants’ . Soon, I am sure, it will be a full fledged ‘e magazine The Vibrants’ . Your own magazine will have stories, travelogues, poems. Pictures, cooking recipes, quiz contest etc etc. But as you all know , ‘Forwards, Politics and controversial posts about religion. Caste or creed are not entertained here in this magazine too. You may wonder, when we have a whatsapp group, why we need a ‘e’ magazine. The reason is, whatsapp posts have short shelf life whereas magazines can be read leisurely. WE have created an editorial board just to take care of management of the magazine and all your submissions will go through the Editorial board who will approve the publication of any submission. Their decision will be final . Editorial Board details are published elsewhere in this magazine. Friends ! First we are starting ‘ The Vibrants” as bi- monthly and in time, if there is public demand, we may make it a monthly. What we are bringing out now is just a teaser for the forthcoming magazines, So a gist of what is being offered in the magazine is being presented for your eyes. There are some pictures of New Year Eve and New year celebrations. Some temple festival pictures also presented. Due to pandemic days, we are unable to travel as we used to before Covid entered in our life. So, we are presenting you with ‘European Delight’ presented by Shri Krishnan, A-103. It will be in two parts. This magazine will seem little vacant without the poem from Shri Sambathkumar C-204. So you are going to enjoy his poem too. European Delights (By Shri Krishnan A-103) ******** When Sangu & Deepa proposed that we take a conducted tour of Europe with Star Tours Ltd. I was in two minds -the joy and enthusiasm in seeing places and meeting people mingled with the feelings of uncertainty about my mental and physical fitness level in negotiating a rigorous 12 day bus journey of 6 European countries with varying climates and terrains, apart from the stiff cost of £2600 (includes cost of travel, food, stay in hotels and entry fee to various places of interest) which will make a big hole in the wallet of my son! But the basic love for travel won the day. The trip involved travel by road in a luxury bus starting from London covering important tourist spots in 6 European countries viz . Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy and France in that order We were dropped at Wembley, one of the pickup points ,early morning of the 3rd July 2013,by Sangu, Deepa & Dhruv. We were fully equipped with woollens ,gloves, umbrella, ponchos, dark glasses and whatnots, in addition to dozens of innerwear(to last us for the entire tour without washing!- it was the first time in my life to have a stock of so many banians and underwear at a time! ) all tightly packed in two, wheeled, handy suitcases, in addition to a back pack each and a bag containing snacks ( the advice from the experienced Sangu & Deepa stood us in good stead for our comfortable and hassle free journey). After a two hour drive to Dover, our coach and all of us ( our group consisted of 48 members , young and old, hailing from various parts of India now settled in different places all over the world and included our friends and neighbour Shri Rajendran & Ms Sasirekha) boarded the ferry ,to cross the English Channel (90 minutes’ sailing) and reach Calais on the French coast. The ferry is a huge ship with several decks and carries thousands of passengers and scores of coaches and hundreds of cars. The crossing was a picturesque one on the high seas and we had a free run of the ship visiting the restaurants, shops, exchange counters, lounges etc, taking snaps of the various facilities the seas, coastline etc. The French Immigration authorities were very liberal, in that, they allowed all of us into the European Union without any scrutiny of our passports and European (Schengen) visas and we were back in our coach on our way to Germany via Belgium. It was a long drive of 8 hours and were (having taken our own packed lunches on the way) in time to check into our hotel (Hotel Residenz, LIMBURGERHOF, Germany) have a wash and then have dinner and take rest for the night. Next day, the roll call was like this

(practically for all the rest of the days) 6 am wakeup call, 7 am breakfast and 8 am loading the coach and 8 30 am leave the hotel) and off we were on our way to Heidelberg to see the famous castle perched on the hills and take photos of it and statues in the court yard and of the baboon ( as the story goes) which warned the people of the arrival of the enemy and the killing of the security staff in the far away hills, by playing with mirror and sending signals inadvertently ( It only goes to show that such anecdotes, which are common in India, abound in faraway lands as well ). Then it was to the black forest region and to the Cuckoo clocks manufacturing place and the demonstration, tracing its origin and development. Opportunity to purchase clocks (too costly to suit our wallet) and other souvenirs was given. Lunch – Indian( right through sumptuous and tasty Indian vegetarian food was the highlight of the tour) was served from the accompanying caravan at a suitable picnic location. In the afternoon, we drove to Switzerland to see the Rhine falls ,said to be the largest waterfall in Europe( with the maximum of water flow) - It is a broad waterfall falling from about 70 feet with a flood of water. We were taken in a boat to the foot of the fall and had a good spray. Some of us went to the top of the waterfall by climbing the mountain. In Europe (like in UK),in summer, the days are long and the sun sets after 9 pm only and

when we checked in at the Ramada Ho tel in Engel berg, Switzerland ( a salubrious hill station like Ooty) at 9 30 pm it was still daylight.For the next three nights it was our comfortable abode. Day three saw us on our way to Interlaken in the Lauterbrunnen Valley and then off to Mt Jungfrau by train. We have to drive up the mountains to the station to catch the train and then again change over to another special train with cogwheels for the stiff climb to Mt Jungfrau station, which at about 3500 meters above sea level, is the highest railway station in Europe , surrounded by snow capped mountains and valleys glimmering with reflected sunrays on the ice. From the station we are whisked away on a high speed elevator to the top of Europe on to a ice bound platform- Sphinx, a vantage terrace overlooking the dwarfed mountain peaks and the valleys lying all around. It is a stupendous, breathtaking sight which will ever be ingrained in our memory. The visit to the Ice Palace was a crowning glory. As a souvenir, we were all issued with a passport to Jungfrau, duly stamped. Back to Interlaken for shopping of souvenirs and then to the hotel after a strenuous day.

Fourth day was spent on our visits to Trummelbach waterfall, Mt Titlis and Luzern. Trummelbach waterfall visit was an additional excursion at extra cost of Euros15 per head to a hidden waterfall inside the high mountains We have to go up the elevator and then climb winding stairs to see the water gushing through rocky crevices Then it was a drive to the base camp, and from there we are taken to the summit, above 3000 metres, by three stages of cable cars – First the Gondola from Engelberg to the Trubsee station and then by cable car to Stand Station and the third being a revolving Gondola- Titlis Rotair – to have a panoramic view of the Swiss Alps

in all its glory and the glittering blue lake– and on to the treacherous Ice flyer chair lift– those with chicken heart would shun it – to reach to the top of Europe. The glaziers are there all around to frolic about and we had a jolly good time playing in the ice and sledging in the icy slopes. Lots of photos with members of our group will carry fond memories of this exhilarating experience. Later we drove to Luzern and saw the lion monument, which is put up in memory of the Swiss soldiers who lost their lives in the French revolution. We also saw the oldest wooden bridge – Chapel Bridge and then relaxed on the banks of the lake. We left Ramada hotel for our visit to Liechtenstein ,one of the smallest countries in the world and Austria which was on the itinerary for the fifth day. Drive to Vaduz, the capital city was a picturesque one, through the mountains and valleys and time was at our disposal to explore the streets of Vaduz

and do some souvenir shopping We did not forget to pick up stamps for Dhruv The next stop was Swarovski Chrystal Museum. It was a captivating place with an awesome display of Chrystal artefacts. We picked up some exquisite ear rings. Drove on to Innsbruck ,visiting places of historical interest, like Triumphal Arch & Golden roof, en route We checked in at Stay Inn at Schwaz for the night ,after the usual sumptuous dinner. We, however, missed out on the city tour of Zurich, for want of time. It was time to leave Stay Inn , on the sixth day of our tour, for Venice leaving behind Austria for Italy -from the cool climes to the boiling sun drenched land of historical importance. Venice is an island and we have to get into a speed boat to reach this trade centre of days of yore of Roman empire. (We recall the Shakespearean play ‘Merchant of Venice’). We were forewarned that Italy is a place of pickpockets and snatchers of lady’s purses and all of us have to hold our

valuables dear by keeping them close to our chests under constant sight. ( We had to transfer the backpacks to the front during our trips in Italy)- To prove that the warning was well meant, was the experience of one of the youngster in our group, who had to dodge the sudden lunge made at him by a comely young lady obviously to snatch his bag. Lot of walking in the scorching sun in the crowded alleys is involved as the Italian authorities prohibit tourist vehicles from entering the tourist spots. The caps and the dark glasses and the umbrellas were out in the open, as we soldiered along the bridges separating the several islands, that form the archipelago .The imposing St Mark’s square surrounded by majestic buildings caught our eye and we were busy taking photographs The prison, where the condemned prisoners were interred and the Bridge of Sighs where the blindfolded prisoners were given a last chance to see the outside world and the oldest bridge, Basilica San Marco were some of the interesting sights. Visit was arranged to the Murano Glass Showroom for the live show of how exquisite flower vases( among other things made of glass) were made. Then there was the Gondola ride ( only 4 persons in a boat) through the stinking backwaters of Venice - instead of roads we have the waterways as we have in Allapuzha ( Alleppey) in Kerala – to connect houses. After a strenuous day, we were glad to check in at Sheraton Padova in Italy, hastily finishing our Indian dinner. As usual, we checked out of the hotel by 8 30 am on our way to Florence, a city of historical importance, dotted with impressive memorials like statue of David, Basilica of Santa Croce, Ponte Vecchio bridge on the Arno river, resting place of Michelangelo and the Piazelle Michelangelo. (சுசி ிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி) *********** ஆனந்தின் மு த்ததப் பொர்த்தவுடன் ஜொன ிக்கு கதரிந்து விட்டது என்ன ரிசல்ட் என்று. இ ண்டு மூன்று நொட் ளொக் ொய்ச்சல், சளி, இருமல் என்று அவதிப் பட்டுக் க ொண்டிருந்தொள் ஜொன ி. அதனொல் இ ண்டு நொட் ளொ அவள் 10வது வகுப்பு மொணவர் ளுக் ொ நடத்தும் ஆன்தைன் ட்யூஷனுக்கும் லீவ் விட்டிருந்தொள் ஜொன ி. ஆனந்த் பக் த்து வடீ ்டு படிக்கும் தபயன், அவனும் அவளிடம் ட்யூஷன் படித்து வந்தொன். பக் த்து வடீ ு என்பதொல் அவ்வப்ரபொது அவளிடம் ரந டியொ வும் தன் பொடத்தின் சந்ரத ங் தளக் ர ட்டு கசல்வொன். ஜொன ி அந்த அபொர்ட்கமன்டில் தனியொ இருந்ததொல், இந்த ொய்ச்சல் ரந த்தில் அவளுக்கு ஆனந்த் வடீ ்டிைிருந்துதொன் ஞ்சி மற்றும் உணவு வந்துக் க ொண்டிருந்தது,. அந்தப் பக் த்திைிருந்த க ண்டு வடீ ்டிலும் க ொர ொனொ என்பதொல், யொரும் சுதந்தி மொ கவளியில் கசல்ை முடியொத நிதை. க ண்டு நொட் ளுக்குப் பிறகும் ொய்ச்சல், இருமல் குதறயொததொல், டொக்டர் கமொதபைில் கசொன்னபடி, ஜொன ிக்கும் க ொர ொனொ கடஸ்ட் எடுக் ப்பட்டது. அரதொட ரிசல்தடத் தொன் ஆனந்த் அவளுக்கு கசொல்ை

அடத மறுத்துெிட்டு நடக்கத் வதாடங்கினாள். லிப்ட் மூலமாக அடனெரும் கீமழ வென்று ஆம்புலன்ெில் ஏறிக் க ொண்டொர் ள். அதற்குள் கார்ப் மரஷன் ஆட்கள் வந்து, அெள் டகயில் இருந்து ொெி ொங்கி அெள் ெடீ ு, இ ண்டொம் மாடி தளம், லிப்ட் எல்லாெற்டறயும் மருந்து வதளித்து சுத்தப் டுத்தினார்கள். அதன் ிறகு அெளுடடய டகயில் ொெிடயக் வகாடுத்தவுடன் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் கிளம் ியது. ஆம்புகைன்ஸில் ஏறியதும் ஜொன ிக்கு மனதில் சின்னதொ ஒரு பயம் ரதொன்றியது. இதுெடர அவள் ஆம்புலன்ெில் ஏறியமத இல்டல. அதனால் ஆம்புலன்ெில் ஏறியவுடன் தனக்கு ஏமதா வ ரிதாக ெந்தது ெிட்டது மாதிரி மனதில் ஒரு யம் ெந்து ெிட்டது. அந்த மநரம்தான் தான் எவ்ெளவு தனியாக இருக்கிமறாம் என் து அெளுக்கு புரிந்தது. என்னதான் க ொர ொனொ என்றாலும் குடும் ம் கூட இருந்தால் மநாயாளிதய இந்தமொதிரி ஆறுதல் கூட கசொல்ைொமல் யொரும் இருக் மொட்டொர் ள் என்று அந்த ரந ம் அவளுக்கு வருத்தமொ இருந்தது. அவளுக்கு நிதறய நண் ர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் தான் – அது மட்டும் இல்தை – நிதறய உதெியும் புரிகிறார்கள். ஆனாலும் வொந்த உறவு என் து மெறு தாமன என்று அந்த மநரம் அெளுக்கு மதான்றியது.

இகதல்ைொம் ரயொஜித்துக் க ொண்ரட இருக்கும் கபொழுரத, ஆஸ் த்திரி ொெலில் ம ாய் ஆம்புலன்ஸ் நின்றுவிட்டது, உள்ளிருந்மத ாதுகாப்பு உடடயில் தயொ ொ இருந்த இருெர் ெலீ ் மெத ஓட்டிக்வகாண்டு ெந்தார் ள். அந்த வலீ ் ரசத யும் ஆஸ்பத்திரிதயயும் பொர்த்தவுடன் அவளுக்கு ொ வ் நிதனவு தொன் வந்தது. அந்த நிதனவு வந்தவுடன் அவள் ண் ளும் குளம் ஆனது. அந்த நொள் அவள் ண்முன் ஒரு சினிமொ ரபொல் ஓடியது. அன்று அெள் மூதள சரியில்ைொத தன் தம் ி கீமழ ெிழுந்து ெிட்டதால், அெடன ஒரு ஆட்மடாெில் ஏற்றி ஆஸ் த்திரிக்கு கூட்டி ெந்திருந்தாள். ஆட்மடா ஓட்டுனர் திரும் ிப் ம ாக அெெரப் ட்டதால், தம் ிடய கஷ்டப் ட்டு கீமழ இறக்கி ெிட்டு, அெருக்கு வகாடுக்க மெண்டிய ணத்டத வகாடுத்து அனுப் ினாள். நடக்க முடியாமல் தெிக்கும் தம் ிடய எப் டி ஆஸ் த்திரியினுள் கூட்டிச் வெல்ெது என்று மயாெித்த வ ாழுது ஆஸ் த்திரி ெராந்தாெில் இருந்த ெலீ ்மெர் அெள் கண்ணில் ட்டது. வலீ ் ரசத எடுத்துக் க ொண்டு வ தம் ி டகடய ெிட்டால் அென் கீமழ ெிழுந்து ெிடுொன், என் தால் யாராெது உதெிக்கு ெருொர்களா என்று சுற்றுமுற்றும் பொர்த்தொள். அப்வ ாழுது அங்கு வெள்டள உடடயில் ஒருெர் வதன் ட அெடர ணியாள் என்று நிடனத்து “ தம் ி தம் ி இங்க ாரு - அந்த ெலீ ் மெடர எடுத்துண்டு இங்ர ொ. என் தம் ிடய உள்மள கூட்டிண்டு

ம ாகணும்” என்று உரக்க கத்தினாள். அந்த வெள்டள ெட்டட அணிந்தெரும் ஒரு நிமிடம் அெடள கூர்ந்து மநாக்கிெிட்டு ஒன்றும் ம ொமல் அந்த ெலீ ் மெடர எடுத்துக்வகாண்டு அெர்களிடம் ெந்தார். ஜானகியிடம் ஒன்றும் ம ொமல் அெள் தம் ிடயத் தூக்கி ெலீ ்மெரில் டெத்து, வலீ ்ரசர் ஸ்டி ொப்தப மாட்டிய பிறகு, ெிடுெிடுவென்று வலீ ்ரசத ஆஸ் த்திரிக்கு ஓட்டிச் கசன்றொர். அெர் நடடக்கு ஈடு கட்ட முடியாமல் ஜானகியும் ஓட்டமும் நடடயுமாக அெதனப் ின்வதாடர்ந்தாள். ஆஸ் த்திரியின் உள்மள நுடழந்தவுடன், எல்மலாரும் அந்த வெள்டள உடட அணிந்தவத கும் ிடுெடத ார்த்து ஜானகிக்கு அதிர்ச்ெியாக ஆகிெிட்டது. தான் தான் தெறாக அவத ப் ணியாள் என்மற நிடனத்து, மரியாடத இல்லாமல் “நீ ொ – ரபொ” என்று ம ெியது நிடனத்து ஜொன ிக்கு க ொம்ப அெமானமாகி ெிட்டது, அதற்குள் ெலீ ்ரசர் ெிெிட்டர்ஸ் ஹொைினுள் நுடழந்தது. அந்த வெள்டள உதட அணிந்தெர் ஜானகிடய ார்த்து, “ இங்கு வகாஞ்ெ மநரம் காத்திருங்கள். உங்க நம் ர் ெந்தவுடன் உள்ரள கூப் ிடுொர்கள் ” என்று வொல்லிெிட்டு எதிமர இருந்த அடறக்குள் நுடழந்து ெிட்டார். ஜானகிக்கு ஒரு க்கம் தான் வெய்தடத நிடனத்து ெிரிப் ாக ெந்தாலும் மறு க்கம் யமாகவும் இருந்தது. மயாெித்துக்வகாண்மட இருக்டகயில் ஒரு நர்ஸ் ெந்து அெளிடம் “ டாக்டர் உங்கடள உள்ரள கூப் ிடுகிறார் “

என்று கூறிெிட்டு. அவரள தம் ியின் வலீ ்ரசத த் தள்ளிக்க ொண்டு அதறயினுள் நுதழந்தொள். ஜானகியும் அெடள ின்வதாடர்ந்து உள்மள வென்றாள். உள்ரள நுதழந்தவளுகு ஒமர திடகப்பு. ஏவனன்றால் டாக்டர் ெடீ ்டில் இருந்தது அந்த வெள்டள உடட அணிந்த மனிதர் தான். அவர் மு த்தில் அவதளப் பொர்த்தவுடன் எந்த மொற்றமும் கதரியவில்தை. ஆனொல் ஜொன ிதொன் “ மன்னிக்கவும் டாக்டர் ! நான் ஊங் தள தப் ாக நிடனத்து ெிட்மடன் “ என்று கூற ஆரம் ித்தவுடன், அவர் அெடள டகயமர்த்தி உட்காரச் வொல்லிெிட்டு, அெள் தம் ிடய ரிமொதிக்க ஆரம் ித்தார். ிறகு நர்ெிடம் “ இந்தத் தம்பிக்கு எக்ஸ்ர எடுக் ணும். எக்ஸ்ர ரூமுக்கு அதழச்சுண்டு ரபொய் உடரன எடுத்துண்டு வொங் ” என்று கசொல்ை, நர்ஸ் அவர் தள எக்ஸ்ர ரூமிற்கு கூட்டிச்கசன்று எக்ஸ்ர எடுக் ஏற்பொடு கசய்தொள். எக்ஸ்மர ெில் ார்த்தம ாது எலும்பு முறிவு என்று ஒன்றும் கபரிதொ இல்லாததால் மருந்து வகாடுத்து இன்னும் ஒரு ொரத்தில் ெந்து ார்க்கவும் என்று வொல்லி டொ டர் அவர் தள. அனுப் ி ெிட்டார். “அம்மொ! வலீ ்ரசரில் உட் ொருங் ” என்ற கு ல் ர ட்டு ொ வ் பற்றி சிந்ததனயிைிருந்து கவளிரய வந்தொள் ஜொன ி. ிறகு எல்லாமம மெகமாக நடந்தது. ஜானகிதய உள்மள அடழத்துச் வென்றார் ள். அங்கு ிளொஸ் ஜன்னலுக்கு ின்னால் இருந்த ஒரு டாக்டர்

அெளிடம் ெில மகள்ெிகள் மகட்டார். அதன் ிறகு நர்ெிடம், “இெங்களுக்கு தனி அடற வகாடுத்துெிடுங்கள்” என்று வொல்லிெிட்டு எழுந்து வென்று ெிட்டார். நர்ஸ் ெலீ ்மெரில் டெத்து ஜானகிடய ஒரு தனி அடறக்கு அடழத்துச் வென்றாள். அங்கு வென்றவுடன் அெளுக்கு ஆஸ் த்திரி உடடகடள வகாடுத்து அணியுமாறு வொன்னாள். ிறகு ஜானகியிடம், “உங்களுக்கு என்ன மெண்டும் என்றாலும் இந்த ட்டடன அழுத்தலாம், உங்களுக்கு ொப் ாடு தண்ணிர் எல்லாமம அடறயின் ொெலில் டெத்துெிடுொர்கள். நீங்கள் எடுத்து ொப் ிட்டு ெிட்டு, பொத்தி ங் தளக் கழுெி வெளியில் டெத்து விடரவண்டும். அமத மாதிரி நீங்கள் ம ாட்டுக்வகாண்ட உடடகடள இந்த ட யினுள் டெத்து வெளியில் டெத்து ெிடுங்கள். உங்களுக்கு மாற்று உடடகளும் வெளியில் டெக்கப் டும். உள்மளமய குளியைதற ெெதி எல்லாம் இருப் தால் நீங்கள் வெளிமய ம ாக மெண்டிய அெெியமில்டல. உங்கடள ார்க் வும் யாரும் உள்ரள ெரமுடியாது. உங்களுக்கு இன்வஜக்க்ஷன் நான் ெந்து ம ாடுமென்,. மற்ற டி நீங் ள் உட்க ொள்ள ரவண்டிய மருந்து இந்த மட ிள் மமல் இருக்கிறது. க்கத்திமலமய எந்த மநரம் உட்வகாள்ள மெண்டும் என்ற ெிெரமும் இருக்கிறது. அதன் ிரகாரம் நீங்கள் மருந்து உட்வகாள்ள மெண்டும் நன்றாக ொப் ிட மெண்டும் அப்ம ாதுதான் ெகீ ்கிரம்
