COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONSIts main function is to join words, phrases, and clauses together, which are usually grammatically equal. Aside from that, this type of conjunctions is placed in between the words or groups of words that it links together, and not at the beginning or at the end.

EXAMPLES: 1. He wasn't a born hero but his heroic effort has elevated him into that rarefied league. 2.At a time the world is mourning the deaths of people in the brutal Paris attacks, thousands of miles away from the City Of Love yet this man sacrificed himself to save the lives of countless people. 3.There was mayhem and everyone was distracted.

HOW TO PUNCTUATE COORDINATINGCONJUNCTIONS In joining two words, phrases, or dependent clauses together, a comma is not required before the coordinating conjunction. Example:  “There was mayhem and everyone was distracted”.

HOW TO PUNCTUATE COORDINATINGCONJUNCTIONSIf, on the other hand, you are linking more than two words, phrases,and dependent clauses together, a series of commas must be placed inbetween the distinct elements.Example: “Alder, his daughter, and other people”.
