Changing Negative Mindset Towards Mathematics Johnril Cris L. Tangag [email protected] Liceo de Cagayan University The “Queen of sciences is mathematics” according to Carl Friedrich Gauss. Mathematics has a vast impact on the world and the people. The essence of math is everywhere, from counting numbers, predicting things, and more. Mathematics is important in many things like in the field of economics where math is used in this field, it is also important in the field of education, innovation, architecture, arts, and more. “Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you numbers”. Shakuntala Devi said. Mathematics may have a vast impact but despite how useful mathematics is some people still stigmatize that most people hate math. However, according to a former math teacher Peter Balyta \"There is a misconception in this country that kids hate math,\". They love math and twice and many students love math. In addition, mathematics is hard and sometimes abstract. However, we educators and also people who teach and love mathematics will be the voice of this subject. Math is not a boring subject, an uninteresting, and unenjoyable subject. Thus, it is a subject with substance, an interesting subject, fun and not vapid. People should be aware that the problem is not mathematics but the negative mindset of people toward this subject. As an educator who loves to give knowledge, inspire people specially the future mathematicians, and spread the principle, significance, and beauty of mathematics. Let us change our mindset towards this subject that has been part of our life. May we understand that math is hard but not as hard as a diamond because we can always find the solution, like solving a problem in life, there will always be a solution and a way to solve a real-life problem. People may encounter trial and error in life but in the end, he/she will succeed and achieve his/her goals and solve their problems. Nevertheless, let's change our mindset that we hate math, let hate be gone, and embrace the love of mathematics. Mathematics may not teach us to add love or subtract hate, but it gives us hope that every problem has a solution. – Anonymous.
