Q. To establish Wired Networking in a group of Computers, you require some additional components. Search and collect information about various Networking Components with the help of Internet / Computer Book. What are ‘Networking Components’? Networking components are the components required to establish wired networking in a group of computers. Computer networks comprise both physical parts and the software required for installing computer networks, both at organizations and home. Some of the networking devices are: 1) Network card: A network card is used to physically attach a computer to a network so that it can participate in network communication. The Ethernet network card is the most commonly used network card.
2)Hub A hub is a network device that is used to connect all the computers in a network with each other. A hub acts as a repeater in that it amplifies signals that deteriorate after traveling long distances over connecting cables. A hub is the simplest in the family of network connecting devices because it connects LAN components with identical protocols. 3)Router A router is a device that connects two different types of networks with each other, for example, a LAN with WAN. A router provides the best suitable route to deliver a message and thus, helps in decreasing the amount of time needed to deliver it. Routers are general-purpose devices that interconnect two or more
heterogeneous networks. Because routers are the backbones of large computer networks like the internet, they have special features that give them the flexibility and the ability to cope with varying network addressing schemes. 4) Switch A switch works similarly to a hub. However, unlike the hub, the switch doesn’t broadcast the message on the entire network. It transmits the message from the source computer to the destination computer only by using the physical address. Switches also improve network security because virtual circuits are more difficult to examine with network monitors. You can think of a switch as a device that has some of the best capabilities of routers and hubs combined.
5) Modem Modems (modulators-demodulators) enable you to connect your computer to the available internet connection over the existing telephone lines. It converts the digital signals of a computer into analog signals to enable their transmission via phone lines. Conclusion Having a solid understanding of the types of network devices available can help you design and built a network that is secure and serves your organization well. However, to ensure the ongoing security and availability of your network, you should carefully monitor your network devices and activity around them, so you can quickly spot hardware issues, configuration issues, and attacks.
