Dear Underclassmen, The year is coming to an end and it’s time to move forward. The freshman will be sophomores, the sophomores will be juniors, the juniors will be seniors, and the seniors will be gone. Each yearcomes with its own advantages and disadvantages. Going into each new year you learn from experi-ence. I spent all four years of high school making decisions that I regret and others that I couldn’tbe happier with. Going through high school is a lot of trial and error, but asking for help or gettingadvice can help prevent some errors. I asked many seniors for advice. By far the most common statement was, “DO SCHOLAR-SHIPS, IT’S FREE MONEY.” Only five people applied for certain school scholarships this year. Atthat point the money is basically in your pocket! Not only did the current seniors say this, but schoolstaff did too. Mr. Ibrahimovic from the CRC repeated the idea. You may not think it’s importantuntil you see the cost of going to college. Senioritis is real. If it hasn’t hit you yet, then it will. Don’t think that since you got into collegethat your grades do not matter. In fact, most colleges require a senior transcript to be turned in andif it’s not up to par they can reject you. It is even more important to stay on your game at the end ofthe year. So many different events will be going on; Senior Honors Night, NHS inductions, depart-ment awards, prom, senior breakfast, and graduation; It will come back to you,” one senior said. “Don’t let your ACT / SAT score label you,” is vital to remember as a junior. Yes, colleges lookat your scores, but you can always retake the test. As long as you do your work you’ll get the gradeyou deserved. Now is a good time to become friends with your teachers. When it comes time toapplying for college, you’ll need recommendations. Congratulations to the freshman class for completing your first year of high school. Now don’tget cocky. You may no longer be freshmen. But you’re not top dog yet. You still have most of yourhigh school career ahead of you, and “What you put into high school is what you get out of it.” Sodon’t forget clubs and activities. There’s something out there for everyone; sports, art, music, act-ing, stage crew, gardening, makeup, The Pioneer, and more. Grades are also important as you go onin high school, so take them seriously. I’ve been involved in NHS, stage crew, badminton, and marching band. I have been in regular, accelerated, and AP classes. I experimented throughout my years and I regret very little. It’s impor-tant to make the most out of your high school career. Try new things, hang out with friends, keepyour grades up and experiment with life; this is how to make high school successful. It’s been real and it’s been nice and it’s been real nice...
