BLOOMSBURY INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL HATYAI By Bam Y11 Yearbook 2020—2021

Message from the Principal Dear readers, I must admit that writing a message for the year book is always a difficult task. Where does one start? Especially, this first year when I am so new, during a time when the world has been turned upside down and shaken about by forces beyond our control. My greatest hope is for a “boring” year, next year– when all we have to concentrate on is teaching, learning and having fun! Who would have thought that “boring” two years ago, would have been such a lofty goal? I suppose I should start with the bits I have enjoyed the most. Getting to know the staff and children here. There have been so many lovely chats in the canteen with various students, all of whom have really surprised and impressed me with their amazing talents. One lovely person brought me in homemade chocolate cubes of deliciousness, which of course was an amazing highlight. Another, played the piano for me to such a standard that I almost wept. Sitting laughing with the students eating lunch has been great. Getting to know them and their personalities is truly one of the great privileges of working in schools. Yet, even this most simple of joys has been taken away from us since Easter, due to this accursed disease and the lockdown we have been forced into. However, it did mean our hard working staff put together our fantastic online learning offer. I really enjoyed Songkran Festival, as this water pouring on hands is something I have never experienced before. A truly Thai event. I’m sure there will be more exciting events to come next year, and I will have the chance to get to know parents better too. Some of our staff are leaving us this year; they take with them a little bit of what makes Bloomsbury special in their hearts, along with my thanks for their hard work. This yearbook is a brief glimpse into some of the things that we have managed to do this year, in spite of Covid19 restrictions. None of this year book would have happened without the tremendous effort our teachers. All of which has been done in their free time and coordinated by my marvellous PA, Miss Mon. Thank you all. I am really looking forward to reading this yearbook when it has been printed. John Calvert, Principal.

Thai Director and School Manager To ‘All Bloomsbury’s members’ It is great privilege and pleasure to return to be BISH’s Thai Director and School Manager. I am also highly delighted that we have our new Principal, whose extensive leadership expertise and many years of experience, has instantly contributed to our school’s development. Throughout the academic year 2020 – 2021 I have seen great progress and many highlights in the school. This gives me immense pride to recognise the completion of another successful year. I also hope that all BISH’s members have enjoyed the moments of success and achievement of our students, staff and BISH’s wider community. To our students, I wish to congratulate you on your achievements. This is most certainly due to all of your hard working and determination. Additionally, it is my hope that you will remember not only the good times you had during your school experience, but also the hard times when you put your efforts to overcome the difficulties you faced during closure of school and adapting to virtual learning. These did not only significantly bring you a lot of changes and challenges, but also enhanced you to be more independent and to continue with your development as a global citizen of the 21st century. To parents, I wish to extend my gratitude to your unvarying support and contributions to all school’s events and activities. I am always impressed with those beautiful memorable pictures of you and the school working as a team to boost BISH’s development. Finally, I am certain a bright future lies ahead in the coming school year that many exciting events are anticipated to take place. It also gives me a firm belief that BISH’s improvement will continue rapidly, especially with the togetherness of all school community members. I wish you all a wonderful summer holiday and a start of the new school year of 2021 – 2022 with positive energy. Please stay safe, strong and healthy! Year 5 Wow, Year 5 what a wonderful year we have had. From making an Ustronaut, to turning our names backwards, singing together at b’dazzling club, baking cookies, pranking Miss Ferguson, Snowy Joey your substitute teacher, introducing our pets, making spooky Halloween rhymes and constant misuse of the word ‘aesthetic’. We’ve laughed so many times we can’t remember and sang “Underneath the Tree” so many times we can’t forget! We’ve met some great people along the way: Bradley Chalkers, Alex Rider and Auggie Pullman. Each of them teaching us a valuable lesson. Bradley taught us about friendship, Alex taught us about never giving up and August taught us to be ourselves no matter what. Anas, Bonae, Cha Cha, En En, Meleah, Potter, Us and Xinzien I hope you take the lessons we’ve learned this year and carry them into your final year of primary school. Continue to laugh, sing and sparkle always. I’ll be cheering you on from near or far. And remember, if that’s what you think then that’s what you write. From Miss Donna

EAL KS2 Who said EAL isn't Fun? What better way to learn about Past, Present and Future? The EAL students created a time capsule and buried it. The students put in things which they liked in the past, saying that they have outgrown these things. We also made a video with predictions on how they would change over the next 2 years and put it in the time capsule. The plan is to dig it up in 2022.
