ANNUAL REPORT 2021 Medical Social Service As the nation was gripped by threats of an overwhelmed Philippine healthcare system, the Foundation gave many families a glimmer of hope. The social service program of the Foundation serves the weary who carry substantial financial burdens of medical care. However, 2021 was a big year, as the Foundation allocated a total of 220 million pesos to cater to the medical needs of indigent patients. As a result, more than 27,000 Filipinos benefited from this through the support of various departments. These include those fighting cancer, such as the 147 patients under the George K. Young and Florida Uytengsu Young Outpatient Oncology Program and 82 patients supported by the NI Capital and Ross Foundation. The Tan Eng Gee Eye Institute treated 162 cataract cases. The RTY Foundation Cardio Program helped 20 cardiac patients. Twenty two patients were treated through the P&G Skin Diseases Program and two beneficiaries were served by the Eduardo M. ANNUAL REPORT 2021 Medical Research & Development Research and development took center stage in the battle against the global pandemic. Medicine is a practice that thrives with innovation and experimentation. Research and development have always been a core program for the Foundation, allowing skilled doctors and scientists the resources to seek new research to contribute to the medical and scientific field for the benefit of humankind. In 2021, the SLMC Foundation allocated resources to the SPECTRA research and clinical trials, evaluating the efficacy, safety, and immunogenicity of Covid-19 vaccines.
