Conjunction divided into 3 groups. 1. Coordinating Conjunction 2. Subordinating Conjunction 3. Correlative Conjunction

Coordinating Conjunction Is a conjunction used to connect two words or sentences both messages to links must have the same weight or importance such as and, yet, but, for, so, nor, neither, or

Such as • and used to connect sentences that are in the same way. For example We eat with fork and a spoon. • yet and but used to connect conflicting sentences. For example My brother worked hard but he did not succeed. They haven't eaten yet. • for used to connect logical sentences. For example He went in, for the door was open.

Such as • so used to connect logical sentences. For example The door was open so he went in. • nor and neither used to connect both negative sentences. For example He nor I was there. I think neither of these dresses fits me. • or used to connect sentences showing alternatives For example She wants to watch TV or listen to some music.

Subordinating Conjunction Is the conjunctions used to connect the subordinate sentences with the main thematic sentences such as after, because, if, although, before, since, that, unless, until, when, as soon as.

Such as • after For example The girl cried after the boy left. • because For example The boy was absent because he was ill. • If For example Stay indoors if it rains. • although For example Although it was cold, I went swimming.

Such as • before For example Clean the room before I go. • since For example She has learned English since last year. • that For example Hold it up so that everyone can see it. • unless For example I’ll be there at nine, unless the train is late.

Such as • until For example They did not come until the meeting was half over. • when For example He is impatient when he is kept waiting. • as soon as For example I’ll leave for the funeral as soon as the meeting ends.

CorrelativeConjunction It is a conjunction that must always be used together It performs a function similar to a Coordinating Conjunction, that is it connects sentences of equal importance such as not only…. but also, either…..or, as…..as, so as to, both…..and

• not only…. but also For example Man needs not only food but also shelter. • either….or For example You can either sleep or eat. • as…..as For example She runs as fast as I do. • so as to For example I study hard so as to pass the exam. • both … and For example I enjoy both singing and dancing.
