ABOUT US How we started:The idea for genWHY Communication Strategies was born in 2006 when Kristin Scroggin was aCommunication Arts Lecturer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. While working with her Millennialstudents, she discovered that many of the motivation techniques that had worked with her Baby Boomerand GenX cohorts were not working in the same way with her students. Kristin began activelyresearching each of the generations to determine the differences, and discover how to motivate herstudents best. In 2011 she was asked by the Leadership Huntsville to share her findings, and before longshe was presenting across the country. Her Generation \"THEM\" presentation has been given over 200times to state HR conferences, small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies. In 2017 Kristin reachedout to two of her most talented former Communications students and her hyper-organized collegeroommate to come together and form genWHY Communication Strategies, and that's where we aretoday. Kristin has her Masters in Communication Studies, Bachelors in Communication Arts and has been a Communications Lecturer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for 11 years. Her passion is generational diversity, and for the past five years, she has spoken at conferences and organizations across the United States ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small non-profits. Obsessed with travel and desperate to see the world, she and her husband try to keep their heads above water while parenting their four children and any foster children who come their way. While her degree is inKinesiology which she utilizes in the group fitness classesshe teaches, her full time job is as a legal assistant / paralegalin Birmingham, Alabama. Working in these areas has given her valuable insightinto the world of human resources and the issues that theyface on a daily basis. Her experience includes working ondiscrimination lawsuits, charges and complaints; drafting,amending, and reviewing both retirement and health andwelfare plans; writing client bulletins for changes in theemployee benefits world; and maintaining and updating anextensive database of documents for trial. This experiencecombined with her organizational skills allow her to jugglemultiple tasks and projects while consistently ensuringclient satisfaction.
Chris Atkinson - Training & Development SpecialistBorn and raised in Jamaica, Chris transferred his passion for speakingto the states at 17 years old when he was accepted into the JuniorStatesman of America Program at Yale University. He walked awaywith the best speaker award during his attendance and vowed one dayhe would \"speak for a living.\" He has spent the past seven yearsproudly serving in the Alabama National Guard, including twodeployments (Afghanistan and Kuwait). Through every job he has heldin the military, from military police to engineer to a mechanic, there isone job he excels at...motivating others. Chris has led and learned fromevery generation during his time as a Sergeant and has a unique viewof generational differences as someone who was raised outside of theUnited States but works in the United States. Chris's #1 passion is hismotorcycle, though, don't let him tell you any differently! Cody Jones- Training & Development Specialist Cody Jones moved from Indiana to Alabama to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville and play for university’s basketball team. While there, he discovered a talent for public speaking and training and was offered an internship at NASA. After graduating with a BA in Communication Arts, he was offered a full-time position with NASA as a Payload Communicator in support of the International Space Station. (Which means he talks to astronauts every day!) He was elevated to PAYCOM Team Training Lead within two years of certification and now works with the Training and Integration Team. His passion for generational research was piqued when Cody, a Millennial, was tasked with training new hires ranging from recent college graduates to Baby Boomers.
