STANDARDS-BASED GRADING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY THE PHOENIX ACADEMY We would like to introduce the new Phoenix Academy (formerly Elsmere and Broad Horizons) to the communities and districts we serve. The Phoenix Academy will bring a fresh, new commu- nity learning experience for all students. Together, the staff and students of Phoenix Academy will strive to meet the following mission statement: “Phoenix Academy strives to create a learning community that rises to the challenge of adversity; through respecting ourselves, having an internal drive for improvement, maintaining a safe environ- ment and encouraging others to RISE.” The Phoenix was chosen as the school mascot be- cause it symbolizes rebirth and regeneration. The students of Phoenix Academy are provided a new opportunity to rise above obstacles and challenges. This is done through teaching students and staff to demonstrate respect, develop intrinsic improve- ments, and maintain an environment for growth. The Phoenix Academy provides a strength of pur- pose for both staff and students to maintain a healthy, safe, and encouraging environment for all of our community. The Phoenix Academy will be implementing the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports framework to create a positive learning environ- ment, both academically and behaviorally for our students. This framework aims to create a school community built for growth and success. The Phoenix Academy strives to support staff and students to RISE above. Jeff Berdine [email protected]
