May 2015 National Doughnut Week 09th - 16th May 2015 National Doughnut Week was founded by independent baker Christopher Freeman in 1991. It has raised a total of £787,000 for childrens charities with the sale of over 14 million doughnuts. In 2005, the Childrens Trust became the chosen charity and to date has recieved £312,000 from the event. Brooklands wonbest college and group display for the thrid year in a row.Susan Haskell, who is Bakery Lecturer at Broklands College said \"Very proud of allLeft inside pagethe students hard work towards this award, we always take a selection of workfrom each level to show a progression of skills'. The cookies were well receivedtoo. The main display cake this year was slightly different- a group project bymainly the level 2 flowers group, with help from some level 2 cake dec students.(Flat size 210mm x 297mm)The flowers were made over a period of time from January, but the cake was doneon one day 10th March, started at 8.30am and completed at 8pm...while a collegeopening evening was happening. A rough costing was done and we think it wouldneed to be sold for £2500!!!! The Hydrangeas alone took 8 1/2 hrs and they werefiller flowers!!!\"Students also baked American Style Cookies, using a cookie mix supplied byIreks. These cookies were sold to visitors, and all funds rasied are being puttowards the costs for students to attend the ABST conference in June.
