She is twenty nine years old and has made her musical debut in the Chutney arena almost three years now. Prior to her debut Rachel lived in Toronto for a few years but throughout those years she was back and forth Toronto and the United States of America as she loved to travel. The extent to which she loved to travel is the mere fact that she has travelled and explored fifty two states within the America nation. Travelling frequently at such long distances she got acquainted with music as it provided her with friendships on some of these trips which were often lonesome. It was on one particular day, Rachel took a breath, and when she did, she took a breath of inspiration. Rachel wanted to write music. For all her life her Dad would tell her that she was born to be a poet, so here was a chance to write lyrical poetry which would be presented as a song. Rachel wrote many songs but it was only when she returned to Trinidad she released one of them to the public. To the many chutney lovers, they will be familiar with it ‘Heat calling me’ in 2012. The song received a lot of airplay and was received by many, as it was both melodic and infectious. What does the future hold for this artiste? Rachel has indicated to OMG that she want to build herself as a musician. She wants to be regarded as a versatile artiste, she could sing and perform different genres of music and an audience will enjoy and appreciate her talent. As for Rachel’s OMG moment it was when she did chutney song ‘Heat calling me.’ The song was written and sung by her, thus a hundred percent product of her. Rachel was even more astonished as she was selected as one of the twenty chutney soca monarch contestants. Lighting/ Retouching Ronaldo Roberts Photographer Stephen Doobal
