They have become, as with so many others before them, like family, helping guide, nurture and boost during the darkest and most trying times. ‘EASIER FOR EVERYONE’ “Everybody has been amazing. I guess if I think about it in a sense, from a mom perspective, I always have these thoughts that a lot of people would say only a mom would have. Certain things that you worry about, even something small that you thought of. And I feel like the nurses, the staff, everybody, the doc- tors, they all know all that. I just think that they know all the ins and outs of how to make things easier for everyone; the children, the families,” Jana shares. “We’ve only always felt like a family dynamic from them. Everybody seems to get to know the parents and the kids just to make everybody feel the best they can in a difficult situation. Nobody wants to be going back and forth to the Janeway. Obviously, in a perfect world, you’d have perfectly healthy children, but because of the dynamic there and the way that everybody works together as a team, I feel like that’s something you can’t replace. They’re just amazing.” TUNE IN TO THE TELETHON June 5th, 6:30PM – 9:30PM* June 6th, 2:00PM – 7:00PM* 16 THE NEWFOUNDLAND HERALD/JUNE 6 - 12, 2021

She was still only 19 years old. Alex did all he could. His dear wife had three servants at her beck and call. To liven up the household, Alex talk- ed two of his employees, Sam Smith and Al Whitfield, into rooming at his big, comfortable home. Nancy Register, a seamstress, called at the house each day to repair Annie’s old clothes and create new ones. DEAR ANNIE ... But Annie wasn’t happy. This fact came forcefully to light one day when Annie picked up a piece of paper lying on a living room table and read aloud to Nancy, “Ann, I once thought you loved me, but now I have reasons to suspect that you love another better than me. For the sake of your friends, you may stay in my house, but you must find your own clothes as well as you can. Prepare a bed for me upstairs tomorrow. You can no longer be my wife.” The note was signed “Alex.” Nancy expected that pretty Annie would burst into tears or at least show some emotion after receiving such a letter. Not so. Annie thought out loud, “Somehow he found out about James.” Nancy was surprised. She composed herself enough to volunteer a bit of wis- dom. “You better not see him again, Mrs. Simpson, husbands have been known to kill their wives’ lovers.” Next Week: Things did not go well in the Simpson home for the next few weeks.
