What Skills Should You Have in ProducingTeleseminars?A teleseminar can allow you to market goods andservices to people without you having to spend alot of money. A teleseminar is simply a regularseminar placed over the phone: your speakers andguests will be on the phone lines telling peopleabout what they should be doing, what they shouldbuy and why, and where they should go to buy whatthey should purchase. Your participants do notneed to travel far in order to reach yourconference. They simply need to call your specialtelephone number, enter their authorization or
access code, and then listen to your seminar overthe phone.Producing a teleseminar, however, also needs youto have a special skill set. First, because theteleseminar is conducted over the telephone andrelies on technology, you will need to have sometechnological know-how in terms of how thetechnology works. This means that you should knowwhat button does what on your console, what youneed to do in order to return a dropped call backinto the teleseminar, and troubleshooting. Thismeans that you also have to have the ability tothink on your toes just in case something happensduring the teleseminar. In producing the teleseminar itself, you need tohave a great sense of what logic to follow in youroutline. You need to draw up an outline: you needto know how to tell your customers or clients whatyou need to tell them in the fewest words andshortest time possible. You need to make
efficient use of your time: you cannot have ateleseminar running over an hour or two, as it canbe tiring to attend a seminar while cradling aphone to one 抯 ear. You need to have a sense ofhow people 抯 minds work: which speaker shouldfollow which speaker, and how can you best endorseyour product or service without sounding like youare desperate for sales? You also need to have a great nose for networking. This allows you to not only get more people tolearn about your product or service offline, butit also gives you the chance to interact withprofessionals who could spice up your teleseminarand serve as your speakers. A great relationshipwith people in your line of work can also assureyou of more customers, especially if you know howto endorse your products and services to yourtarget market. You need to have a great voice and modulation ifyou are the speaker for a teleseminar. Your voice
needs to carry through the phone lines. Moreover, you need to be an engaging speaker: listening toa boring speaker over the phone is not onlydiscouraging, but annoying for your prospectivecustomers. If you are not the speaker, but aretasked with looking for speakers, you also needto have an ear for who speaks well and is engaging, all while having a good voice that is suited toteleseminars.Lastly, you need to have a lot of energy. Puttinga teleseminar together can be difficult withoutthe energy of someone who can coordinate people, have technology up and working, and come up witha backup plan if things go wrong (as they usuallywill when technology is involved). You also need to be proactive: being reactionarymight only lead to panic and a badly concludedteleseminar. For more advice, talk to people whohave already produced teleseminars, and learnfrom every teleseminar you produce so that the
next one will be better.
