Governor Wamatangi held a meeting last week with Department of Administration leadership, sub-county heads, wards admin- strators together with County liquor licensing officers, County Commander, his deputy, head of Directorate of Criminal Investi- gations and Police Commandant in the County to discuss how to escalate war against illicit brews and drugs, and also control of liquor business. “The liquor licensing officers are warned against colluding with liquor dealers, who have flooded the county with illegal bars and wine and spirit outlets by taking bribes from them,” said the Gov- ernor. One of the pertinent issues that arose in the meeting was the extent in which alcohol abuse has brought about in the county, however, the County administration is determined, and have set vision and target to eradicate the vice. “In this regard, I have directed that no liquor outlet should be al- lowed to operate within residential areas and near learning insti- tutions, ordered the GVN. “My government is not treating licensing of bars and liquor stores as a main source of revenue at the expense of young people, and will slash the number of bars and liquor stores to save the youthful population in the County.” asserted the County Boss. General retail liquor stores, including bars and restaurants will only be located in established town centers as per the county Act, and premises hosting them will first be vetted to ensure only those that have complied with law are licensed. The entire Government formation attended the meeting where illicit brewing was addressed decisively and with finality
