As a consequence, the Enterprise - established in partnership with the bank - will make its last round of grants to community volunteer groups in coming weeks, before folding. \"As far as the enterprise is concerned, we'd done all of this work to encourage people to bank there and, with the closure, they've made [the organisation] look deceitful,\" Mr Merriman said. Since it was established close to a decade ago, the QPLCE has distributed more than $600,000 to community groups. Bellarine-based Senator Sarah Henderson also made representations to the bank. “Bendigo Bank promotes itself as a community bank so it is most disappointing to see how the bank has turned its back on the Queenscliff community,” Senator Henderson said. “It appears that the bank has used the pandemic as a cover to close the Queenscliff branch permanently. It is simply not a solution to ask local residents to travel to Ocean Grove.” The bank said the closure followed a review of transaction activity, visitor numbers and proximity to its Ocean Grove branch. This design incorporates a flexible auditorium for presentations, events or even smaller group work,” it said. “An outdoor courtyard at the front of the building and an outdoor learning space in the rear garden provide opportunities to have meetings or join an activity in the fresh air. “These flexible spaces have plenty of potential, and we're excited to see how the tenant organisations and our community makes use of these areas.” The project has been jointly funded by the Victorian and Federal governments and the Borough of Queenscliffe.
