The local Sacred People, Sacred Heart event attracted around 50 people including Mayor Ross Ebbels, leaders of Anglican, Uniting and Buddhist faiths, and students from nearby St Aloysius Primary School. St George’s priest Father Peter Martin said the gathering reflected the increasing expectation for governments to do more to reduce carbon emissions. “It’s almost normalised now that this is the main game. Ten years ago when I came to the parish, I had active climate change deniers… but two years ago our parish council decided to put climate justice at the centre of our mission in life and there’s been no pushback to that. At the heart of the global day of action, organised by Green Faith International, was a multi faith statement signed by hundreds of world leaders. The Australian campaign called on the federal government to commit to the Paris Accord of net zero emissions by 2030 and greater support for renewable energy. “There are many planks of our action, but one is that we lobby various corporations who are thinking about, for instance, supporting the Adani Mine, and that lobbying has been very successful,” Fr. Martin said. Pictured: Anglican Church Priest Father Peter Martin, Buddhist order representative Ian Roberts and St Aloysius school captains Harry, Georgia, Mia and Lenny.

Queenscliffe Blues Train hopeful of hitting the tracks Neighbourhood soon - but the damage will linger House The Heart of the Community Queenscliff’s iconic Blues Train has joined other struggling Victorian venues in calling for clarity on the Victorian Government’s current covid Term Program Out Now restrictions. www.qnhouse.com.au The award-winning attraction, derailed for close to a year by restrictions ph. 5258 3367 on patron numbers, added its name to an open letter seeking a “clear and balanced” roadmap beyond the current 30 per cent cap. 3 Tobin Drive Queenscliff “Now Jobkeeper is ending, the bills are piling up, and we cannot trade out of it,” the letter said. “Our venues are operating at around 30 per cent Image: Biking Home, 2021, acrylic on canvas, 122x182cm of their licensed capacity, resulting in a 70 per cent drop in revenue whilst fixed costs including rent, insurance, utilities and staff remain static.” The award-winning Blues Train has been among the hardest hit of local venues - unable to operate since April last year because of its inability to meet social distancing restrictions within live venue train carriages. The attraction was forced to initiate a Go Fund Me page to help meet the ongoing costs. Owner Hugo T Armstrong is hopeful, with other rail attractions back on track, there might be light at the end of the tunnel. “We have now been working with the health department for three months and I’m confident we are about to sign off on a Covid safe plan for the train,” Mr Armstrong said. “Put quite simply, the Blues Train is just so unique and has so many different elements - from the heritage carriages through to the food and beverage service as well as the live entertainment - [this] meant that we did not fit any one category.” Impacted venue operators have highlighted the exemptions given for the Australian Open Tennis and AFL in arguing for a further easing of patron numbers. “Our biggest priority at the moment is to get tickets back on so when the train starts will be sometime but we are desperate to get the tickets back on sale and make that announcement so watch this space,” Mr Armstrong said. “We have been operating for nearly a year with an absolute skeleton staff so it will be a lot of work to rebuild the business almost from the ground up.” WE HAVEW'PEOHPAPVEED'PUOPP'PED UP W...WE.aEWHW.t..AsEHE.Pa.tVa.AHrt.iH.e.Ena.VA..sta.eiAtnVt.Et'.ragPst.VEses.tt'l.OEreP‘erasePetPtOvteeO'rPlsetPetPPPtOllvaeElerPPeienevtPDEvtEeeilnPDelgtDUslvElUeePUDPvl'Pe’Ul' P' PrinPtsaiPntainingPtsianignstiPnrginsts DrawinPgrsinPtrsinPtsrDinrtaswings HomewDararDewrsianwDgsirnHagwosminegws ares ClothPeasinCtoinllegcPstiLo|PUn'PTHl'Suhr-osie'n‘OTmHCthuslPooeerlt|umwwhCDsHealPaoesrrlotdruawChemsrwooeaslPsblierenleCeucwgotsstiooalsPlnerly|'uceo-Hst'suOioorusnmr'’weawrdarorbeesto Sh ing... paintings, ceramics, textiles, beaded jewellery',The yours' woodwork & pottery items Queenscliff Uniting Church Hall, Cnr Hesse & Stokes Streets 'The'TChloethC'TelohstehC-eCoOslloueCtcrhotewilolseancCr'td-ioo'Orlnloeu'bcr-t'eOiwotuanor'd-wy'rOooabuurderrrswoto-baerydotrouorbyseo' utorsy' ours' Usually open last weekend of the month FREE ENTRY - 10am-4.30pm 61 Point Lonsdale Road Point Lonsdale 61 Point61LoP6no1si6ndP1tao6PLli1noeotinPnRLsotdooiLnanaotlsndeLdsoRadPnlaoeoslaeidRndaRtoloPeaLaodoRdinnPoPtsoaoLdidinonatnPtleLsLodooinanntlsseLddoaalnleesdale The Rip April 2021 Page 32
