Lighting of the tree - the tradition continues Queenscliff-Point Lonsdale RSL President Alan Hunter (pictured left) was given the honour of flicking the switch on our giant Christmas tree this year, recognising the importance of the organisation in the 100th year since the end of World War One. Upwards of 200 people turned out for the annul event, which marks the start of the Borough's festive season. The Norfolk Pine itself is over 100 years old and stands approximately 37.5 metres high. The Lighting of the Tree celebration dates back to 1952. The more than 400 environmentally-friendly coloured lights will remain lit until the end of December.
