Within Darkness, I Depart - 3:08 Album ReviewWithin Darkness begins with an emergency broadcast announcement accompanied by clean guitar and hellish sounds. Then the calm before the storm is broken with track 2 called “Manifesting Depravity”. No spectacular lead work but the albumcrushes. The entire listening experience is an onslaught of brutal vocals, fast desolating riffs and dark melodies. Moments ofthe album have a blackened taste to it. There are only a few spots in my opinion where it could have been mixed better. Two of my favorite tracks are “Extracting the Parasite”, and “Within Darkness, I Depart”. If The Black Dahlia Murder and Cephalic Carnage had offspring, Aphotic would be the outcome!

47 UMC SPOTLIGHT Ashes of Eden Founded: 2006 Hometown: Lake Charles, LA Genre: Progressive Hard Rock/Metal Members: Joey Ashes - Drums, Percussion and Strategic Jellyfish Danny Bailey - Guitar and Lawn Darts Cody Eden - Bass and Coloring Books Jon Shill - Vocals, Guitar and 4th Dimensional Dentistry Ashes of Eden is a Progressive Hard Rock/Metal act based in Southwest Louisiana! Providing the world a superb blend of styles that form an outstanding sound that leaves you wanting more! Ashes of Eden will be hitting the studio to begin recording a new full-length in May at Octane Sound in Sulphur, LA with producer Dale Abshire. Title is yet to be determined with a tentative release in Fall.“This band has real energy you can feel from their music... Metal is all about passion and energy and this band has plenty of both...” ~ Dragonborn Q&A with Joey Ashes MMU: How did AoE form and where does the name stem from? Joey Ashes: I first met Danny (guitar) in the fall of 2006 through a mutual friend. When he found out I played drums, heasked me to come jam with him and Hunter (former AoE guitar). It became a regular thing and we began looking for a bass-ist and vocalist. We went through a couple bassists before finding Cody, and several vocalists. At the time we called ourselvesDelirious Intent and our style was very radio friendly rock. After going through a couple of vocalists and getting bored with what we had written, we realized we wanted to write heavier. Fast forward to 2009, we began as Ashes of Eden. After whatwe considered our vocalist curse, in late 2014, we were approached by our current vocalist Jon Shill. There’s no doubt in our minds that the AoE now is the AoE that is going to live forever. We don’t consider ourselves religious by no means...but the name is a sort of metaphor for the world we live in. In Christian-ity man couldn’t resist the temptation of the apple and threw their paradise away. Just like in the modern world, we’re neversatisfied with what we have and crave more to the point where we burn down everything that was good. The result we live in is the ashes of our Eden.
