SSRVM Magazine Bangalore East E July 2021 Teachers’ Corner The Post Pandemic Workplace Strategies A session for teachers of Grade 5-10 was conducted on Thursday, 15 July 2021. The topic of the session was The Post Pandemic Workplace Strategies. The pandemic has been the largest disruption to education in history, and the enormity of the change was bewildering for many. The pandemic has exposed gaps and weaknesses in our structure, systems, and practice. In the session we would focus on framing a narrative for the future: how do we move from survival mode to thriving mode? We do this, in part, by becoming lifelong learners who can embrace change, learn, and adapt. Teachers and students developed resilience, determination, grit, patience, and hope. Embracing technology, more focus emotional on emotional well-being, incorporating teaching skills for improved interpersonal relationships and effective communication strategies were some of the agreed upon points of the session. The pandemic has left scars. However, going back to the educational practices of pre-pandemic time would be a mistake because it would eliminate the lessons that adversity has taught us. Planning bonding activities, limiting the spread of germs, and welcoming more technology into the classroom are of many practices that teachers expressed interest in maintaining. SSRVM Magazine Bangalore East E July 2021 Teachers’ Corner Van Mahotsav Festival in India Festival of forests, Sounds strange right? According to the Indian forests department, for every fallen tree, ten tree saplings should be planted to make PLANS TO PROTECT up for its loss, but this practice is rarely followed. We all AIR AND WATER, know that, Forests help us maintain ecological balance WILDERNESS AND and reduce carbon footprints. However, hectares of WILDLIFE, ARE IN forests are cut down or burnt every day. Unimaginable, FACT PLANS TO PROTECT MAN. isn’t it? Can we even exist in a world without trees and forests? NO! When we plant a tree we are not only saving our nature but we are protecting our selves. Van Mahotsav is an annual tree planting festival in India, celebrated in the 1st week of July. It was started decades ago by K.M. Munshi (Ministry of agriculture), as an attempt to spread awareness regarding the perils of deforestation and to restore the forest cover of the country. Over the years, this venture has gained momentum and the Van Mahotsav in India is now celebrated in several parts of the country and Individuals, communities, and organizations do their bit for the environment by planting trees of different species in their locality. We all know that trees are of great importance to our lives and environment. They serve us with food and oxygen and both are equally important for us. They have been very much beneficial to us in terms of shelter, medicines, herbs, fuel, oxygen and more. In the last few years, we have been cutting trees ruthlessly in the name of urbanization. Be it for construction of flyovers, roads, pavements or buildings, trees have been cut without been given a second thought. However, this in- human act has only affected us and in a big way. Urban areas especially are in dire need of trees that can help alleviate air pollution, improve the aesthetics of cities that are dominated by concrete and glass and help improve the mental well-being of people that reside in urban centers. The Japanese concept of Shinrin-Yoku or forest bathing has its basis in the curative properties of natural settings for human health. There is a need to take initiative of planting more and more trees and saving the existing trees. So plant a tree today if you have not done it yet. Let us make our Earth greener and create sustainable ecosystems that can flourish for the future generations. Adding tree plantation drives to the list of monsoon activities will not only add to the beauty of the place but will also motivate everyone to actively participate in environmental preservation.
