THINGS FALL APART FINAL PROJECT THINGS FALL APART THE DEATH OF IKEMEFUNA JEYRA BERNAL CHAPTER 7

AFTER 3 YEARS OF BEING IN UMUOFIA, IT WAS FINALLY TIME FOR IKEMEFUNA TO RETURN TO HIS HOME LAND.

...THAT'S WHAT HE BELIEVED AT LEAST

THE MEN HEADED INTO THE FOREST, IKEMEFUNA CARRYING A POT OF WINE AND OKONKWO BEHIND THEM ALL.

...AND THERE WAS A REASON FOR THAT

\"WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO,\" SAID ONE OF THE MEN AND HE AND ANOTHER MAN MOVED UP FRONT TO QUICKEN THE PACE.

AND SO THEY WENT ON DEEPER AND DEEPER INTO THE FOREST.

IKEMEFUNA WAS ANXIOUS, BUT ONCE HE FELT OKONKWO'S PRESENCE HE FELT RELIEVED THAT HIS 'FATHER' WAS WITH HIM.

HE ALSO BEGAN THINKING ABOUT HOW HIS LIFE WOULD CHANGE UPON HIS ARRIVAL... AND HIS LIFE WOULD DEFINITELY CHANGE SOON.

IKEMEFUNA WAS SCARED BY ONE OF THE MEN AND TURNED AROUND TO LOOK FOR HIS 'FATHER.'

TO HIS SURPRISE... OKONKWO HAD NOW MOVED ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK AGAIN.

IKEMEFUNA FELT A SUDDEN WAVE OF FEAR UPON HIM AND ONE OF THE MEN RAISED HIS MACHETE.

...THE POT OF WINE FELL AND BROKE.

\"MY FATHER, THEY HAVE KILLED ME!\" CRIED IKEMEFUNA AS HE ATTEMPTED TO RUN TOWARDS HIM.

OKONKWO COULDN'T DARE LOOK AT HIM BECUASE OF ALL THE GUILT HE HAD.

OKONKWO DREW HIS MACHETE AND CUT HIM DOWN, KILLING HIS 'SON' IKEMEFUNA.

OKONKWO COULDN'T LET HIS FEELINGS TAKE OVER AND RISK SHOWING ANY WEAKNESS.

OKONKWO KILLED IKEMEFUNA WITH A MACHETE BUT WHAT MATTERS ISN'T REALLY THE WAY HE KILLED HIM, BUT THE FACT THAT HE BETRAYED SOMEONE WHO SAW HIM AS HIS 'FATHER'.

AFTER HIS DEATH, OKONKWO SEEMED TO FEEL GUILT FOR WHAT HE DID, BUT HIS PRIDE GOT IN HIS WAY AND HE KEPT IT ALL BOTTLED UP INSIDE WHICH EVENTUALLY MIGHT'VE PLAYED A ROLE IN HIS DECISION TO \"TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT\".
