Greetings, What an exciting time for your child as they prepare to enter Kindergarten! This school year will be full of adventures and opportunities for your child to develop and grow, and we welcome your student and your family to our school! In this digital magazine we have included a few helpful tools to help you, the parent, prepare your child for a successful start to Kinder year. Please mark your calendar for: “Meet the Teacher” on Tuesday, August 13th, 6:00pm - 7:00pm “First Day of School” on Thursday, August 15th. What is the school day bell schedule (what time does my child have to be at school and what time can I pick them up)? School begins at 7:35 am. School ends at 2:55pm. What does morning drop off look like? Students are allowed to enter the building at 7:05 am to the kindergarten hallway and report to their classroom to eat breakfast. Can I walk my child to their room? Parents may walk their child to their classroom. Due to the security of our students, we ask that you pass through the office to receive a pass. After the second semester,children are encouraged to walk to their classroom by themselves. What does afternoon pick up look like? The children will be picked up by their established way home. ● Car riders in the school until they are dismissed ● Walkers on the east of school ● Extend-a-Care in the cafeteria ● Bus riders dismissed to west side of school walked by classroom teacher . Change of Transportation: If the parent wants to change their child’s transportation, the parent must send a note or email to HES attendance in the morning or call the office before noon. Can I pick up my child early from school? What do I need to do? Where do I need to go? What do I need to have with me when I pick my child up? A child can be picked up from school early, only by an authorized person on the child’s registration form. The adult needs to go to the school office with a valid form of identification. Can I have lunch with my child? Can I bring food to school to share with him/her? Yes and Yes, the parent needs to check into the office first with a valid form of identification. How much does lunch cost? Can I send my child with a lunch box? The cost of lunch changes annually. Please see cafe meal prices on the Hays CISD website. Yes, a child can bring a lunchbox to school. Is there a snack time built into the day? Snack time is completely dependent on each individual teacher’s schedule. Please see your child’s teacher’s classroom schedule. Am I allowed to bring snacks for my child’s birthday? Snacks provided for a child’s birthday can be handed out at the end of the school day. (2:30 PM) Is there childcare after school? Yes there is private childcare after school. Extend-A-Care is offered on campus. What opportunities will there be to help out in my child’s classroom? Hemphill Elementary loves having volunteers in our school. Please speak with your child’s teacher about how you can specifically help in the classroom or contact parent liaison Yoli Romo. Is there a nap time built into the day? No, there is not a nap time in Kindergarten.

Attendance Matters Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. There is a strong connection between student attendance and academic performance. Therefore, when students miss class, they miss out on learning. Compulsory School Texas law requires that all children at least 6 years of Attendance Texas age and not yet 19 shall attend school.
