1. What is the school day bell schedule (what time does my child have to be at school and what time can I pick them up)?The school opens at 7:00 a.m. Kinder students come to the classroom at 7:15 a.m. Class begins at 7:35 and dismissal is at 2:55. 2. What does morning drop off look like? Students can be dropped off in the front of the school. Teachers and other adults are available to make sure your child is guided to the cafeteria or their classroom. At the beginning of school, Safety patrol walks the students down. After the first week of school, parents are not allowed in the classrooms. 3. Can I walk my child to their room? Parents are welcome to walk their Kinder student to the classroom the first few days of school. In order to foster independence after the first few days, students will walk on their own. Parents are not allowed in classrooms or hallways without administration’s permission after 7:20. This is a time when teachers begin to supervise their students in the classroom, and mini-conferences distract from student supervision. 4. What does afternoon pick up look like? Walkers or car riders are picked up at the front of the school. Students that ride the bus are escorted by their teacher to their assigned bus. Always use the placards you are given at the beginning of the year. This ensures the safety of your child by identifying you as the person who should be picking up your child. 5. Change of Transportation: All changes both temporary and permanent must go through the front office. If it’s a temporary change, please notify the office by 1:00 pm. We will not remove a child from the bus once they are boarded. It is very important to plan ahead to avoid misunderstandings or disruption of dismissal. 6. Can I pick up my child early from school? What do I need to do? Where do I need to go? What do I need to have with me when I pick my child up? You may check out your child at the front office. An ID is required. Try and avoid early pick-ups. Students miss important instruction. 7. Can I have lunch with my child? Can I bring food to school to share with him/her? It is always exciting when parents come to lunch. Yes, you may bring food for your child only. 8. How much does lunch cost? Can I send my child with a lunch box? Yes, students may bring their lunch boxes. Parents can check the Hays website for the cost and to apply for free or reduced lunch. 9. Is there a snack time built into the day? We have a snack time each day. Check with your teacher to see more details. 10. Am I allowed to bring snacks for my child’s birthday? We enjoy celebrating birthdays! School policy allows birthday celebrations the last 10 minutes of class. Check with your teacher for details. 11. Is there childcare after school? Our school has the Extend-A-Care program. Contact the main office at 512-472-9402 for additional information. 12. What opportunities will there be to help out in my child’s classroom? Many! We want you involved in your child’s education. Check with your teacher. 13. Is there a rest time built into the day? There is no rest time. 14. How can I help my child at home?Having a place and time that is consistent to train students to do their homework. 15. What homework will be assigned for Kindergarten students?Parents reading with their child for 10-15 minutes a day. Review letters, sounds, rote counting, and number identification. Practice high frequency word flash cards. 16. Should my child be taught to tie their own shoes before Kindergarten begins?Yes! If your child wears shoes with shoelaces, they are expected to tie their shoes by themselves. The other suggestion is for your child to wear velcro shoes. Shoelaces carry a lot of bacteria and children tend to put the laces in their mouths. Also, untied shoes are a tripping hazard.

Las agujetas cargan muchos microbios y los niños tienden a ponerse las agujetas en la boca. Además, las agujetas desatadas son un peligro de tropiezo.





Attendance Matters Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. There is a strong connection between student attendance and academic performance. Therefore, when students miss class, they miss out on learning. Compulsory School Texas law requires that all children at least 6 years of Attendance Texas age and not yet 19 shall attend school.
