Missing in Brooks County The documentary chronicles the ongoing crisis of migrant deaths in this rural county, which makes up a fraction of the Texas—Mexico border. By showcasing the people and places impacted by Brooks County’s scarcity of resources, Molomot and Bemiss hope to raise awareness and spur action. We wanted to not only talk about how these people were getting lost and dying because of inadequate resources, but we also wanted to highlight some of the humanity that exists here, says Bemiss. The result is a moving story that moves you, thanks to arresting camerawork and intimate interviews with families left behind. It may be hard to believe, but Missing in Brooks County is not about an actual missing person. Told through the lens of filmmaker Bemiss, the documentary chronicles the effects of isolated law enforcement on American civilians living along the U.S.-Mexico border, where drug cartels are able to smuggle massive quantities of methamphetamines northward through Texas ranches and farmland, often resulting in dead bodies found in Brooks County.
