Networking components Computer network- A computer network can be defined as a group of computers and other peripheral devices that are linked together.Each computer in a network is called a Node. The computers in a network can be linked through cables telephone lines, radio waves or infrared light beams. Advantages of networking;. Reduction in cost – the cost of hardware is considerably less in a computer network. Increased storage capacity- user can store their on remote computers therefore leaving more space for their data. Fast data transfer- provides a facility to transfer soft copies from one computer to another in a high speed. Easy to backup- you can set the server to take regular backup of data automatically. Reduces data inconsistency- as the modification or the updation of the file cannot be done at a single point in a network so this reduces data inconsistency and this more efficiency. Reduced redundancy – it helps in reducing the data redundancy providing a central server to store the data. NETWORKING COMPONEnts;
Computer networks components comprise both physical parts as well as the software required for installing computer networks, both at organizations and at home. The hardware components are the server, client, peer, transmission medium, and connecting devices. . NETWORK CARD-an expansion card that enables a computer to connect to a network, such as a home network, or the Internet using an Ethernet cable. NETWORKIN CABLE- Cables (wires) are used for the connections. MODEM- a device or program that enables a computer to transmit data over,eg- telephone or cable lines HUB- hub is a device that is used to connect computers in a network SWITCH- It is used to connect and break the flow of connectivity. They are used to perform all logical functions. ROUTER- A router is a network device that connects two or more networks. It is commonly used to connect a computer or a network to the Internet
