Frequently Asked Questions A-Z of Staff Forms Academy of Excellence Moodle Site Moodle: http://ilearn.nwrc.ac.uk/ Microsoft Teams, is available to all staff and students through their College Microsoft account, available from www.office365.com Scheme of Work Every course we teach must be planned as soon as we know we have a programme to deliver. There are a variety of templates which are available for this purpose. See the template below one which can be used or adapted to suit your needs. It is important that you plan to include all 3 Essential Skills for each week and that you indicate how the following will be included: differentiation and individual needs; equality and diversity and employability and enterprise. A paragraph on each is sufficient and can be included in the details at the start of the scheme. Ongoing evaluation of the teaching programme is another very important feature of a Scheme of Work. You should keep notes of how well the teaching and learning is matched to the aims of the course. The detail of this will serve well when you need to adjust the running order of the teaching and learning and particularly when you need to write your scheme for the next time you teach the course.

Scheme of Work Template Course: Department: Tutor: Course coordinator: Group MIS Code (name by which the class is known (identity of register and class list) and the same as name on Moodle) Day and Time Room Aim of the course This is a broad statement of the ideal achievements for ALL students by the end of the course. It should include knowledge, skills and professional attitudes. Assessment OF learning: (include brief details of how you will assess your students’ learning. Each awarding body will have an assessment strategy in the course handbook) Individual Needs / differentiation / risk management. A brief statement of how you take account of different attitudes, abilities and learning styles. This can be done by preparing and using different or graded tasks for students of different abilities, by giving a little extra support to certain students within the group who may not be as able as the majority, or giving more challenging tasks or peer-teaching responsibilities to the more able. Students could also be given open-ended tasks which will allow them to display their strengths in different ways. Skillful questions could be used to ensure students are challenged and progressed according to their level of confidence in responding. Issues of H & S, unusual geographical location, use of materials and resources and vulnerable students should be included here. Equality and Cultural Diversity. A brief statement of how you will raise awareness of Equality and Cultural Diversity in your teaching. All the 9 categories of Section 75 NI Act 1998 should be planned and included across the teaching programme and opportunities taken when they arise naturally. Employability and enterprise. Write a brief statement of how you will incorporate elements of problem solving, team-working, being creative and improving own performance which will help students develop skills needed for employment and enterprise. Examples of this could be: industrial visits, inviting speakers from the profession / industry or involvement in work experience and related projects. Students could also engage with the Business Development Centre of the College.

By doing this, the scheme becomes an extended document which will be very helpful when planning the course for the next group. Overall evaluation of the course An evaluation of the whole course should be written. This can be included in the Self Evaluation Report. Use evaluative statement which leads you to look for evidence and examples which can be included. You can take your evaluative statements from each week and condense them into a short paragraph of what worked well and what didn’t. Recommendations for improvements can be transferred to your Quality Improvement Plan.

Lesson Planning Every lesson we teach must be planned beforehand. This is best done after the previous session and before the next one. There are several templates and formats for Lesson Plans. The attached is one which can be used or adapted for your use. You can save the template into your area, delete the contents and use the blank for your own session (or use the version attached).
