MAX LICHABA SERIAL ENTREPRENEUR About Me Max Lichaba is the Founder of Lichaba Group. The subsidiaries of his company are, Lichaba Jewellery , Kwa Lichaba Chesa Nyama,Lichaba Mines, a CSI initiative called Lichaba Foundation and more. He was born on the 28th of April in a small town called Saaiplaais in Virginia Free State. The town is surrounded by mines which played a role in Max Lichaba choosing the path he is currently in. Most of his motivation came from his late mother Palesa Louisa Lichaba, she used to bring business books for Max to read and she was also worked for one of the big mining company as a Jewellery manufacturer. Max is from a family of five, he has 3 sisters and a brother. Max and his brother Thabo Lichaba used to sell vegetables after school and during weekends to assist their mother financially. Some people in the community use to tell them they would never amount to anything, because there is no future in selling in the streets but through determination he managed to go from selling on the streets to owning his own business. After Max finished school, he got an opportunity to enrol with The Harmony Jewellery School in Free State and later became a lecture. Thereafter, he worked for Royal Manufacturing in Virginia Free State. After being retrenched, along with 500 other employees, Royal Manufacturing, he realised that he can actually open his own business. Due to lack of resources, he started by making beads, with only two employees and that is how Lichaba Group was born, back in 2003. Despite the challenges, lack of managerial and structural systems, which led to the company being liquidated in late 2005, Max did not lose hope. He became even more motivated to work harder and got the company up and running again and has never looked back. The strong business network that he has built with institutes such as SEDA, Eskom, SAB Kickstart, The Department of Labour and the DTI, have helped him to get exposure through attending local and international exhibitions. Some even helped with the purchase of manufacturing equipment.
