The Special Edition What is Utsav? Utsav simply means ‘Celebration’. The Celebration of Friendship, Love and Talent. Every year, Utsav gives us great memories and quite a number of stories to tell. And with this issue, we have some stories to tell ourselves, so flip the pages for the insights, ‘behind the stage’ and flashbacks of our Utsav 2014! The celebrations were followed by bidding our farewell to the first BE batch of SLRTCE. We have so many great memories, strong bonds, friendships and affections. But we must depart, for us to meet again. Come with us as we take you through the most remarkable Events of 2014; Utsav 2014 and Farewell! 1

The Super-Heroes Behind The Scene Have you ever been to college with Iron Man? No? Well what about Batman? I didn’t think so. Well, we have! This Utsav 2014 we were accompanied by none other than our favorite superheroes. The whole college was a comic book coming to life! This Utsav, the theme was ‘Everyone is a Super-Hero’ and the Decorations lifted the Fest to a whole new level. Hulk on one wall, wolverine on another, Green Lantern Standee and an extravagant poster of Batman, it was truly awe inspiring. The theme was pulled off amazingly by the Decoration Team of Utsav 2014. They worked tirelessly for days to carry it off, and successful they were. The whole team of Raw Ink salutes them for their work and truly, Every One of Them IS a Super Hero. 2 - Raw Ink

Treasure Hunt Ever driven by curiosity of what a clue might hold, or by the idea of finding riches that was hidden from the world for almost as long as a century or at-times even older! Do you crave adventures and challenges and particularly enjoy the rush of adrenalin through your system while taking on those challenges? Does the idea of being crazy and finding an opportunity to live crazy appeal to you? Then you have almost all the makings of a Treasure hunter! Last Utsav, Shree L R Tiwari College organized a mini treasure hunt with all its adventures, tasks, excitement, craziness and ecstasy. Around 25 teams registered for the event, and the anticipation and excitement was maddening. It was an inter college event, so people from colleges across Mumbai registered. All teams with a group of 4 or 5 members, assembled in a class for the pre-event speech, screaming at the top of their voice with exhilaration! The sight was breathtaking. The organizing team worked tirelessly for weeks to get the hunt into action. Planning and designing the tasks and laughing our wits out imagining the contestants performing them. We interviewed the winners, a team of BE IT from our college, Amit Shah who as it sounded in the interview was a constant motivator in the team, Jayesh Patil-the dancer who urged the team to keep their calm, Mihir Shah a supportive member and an active runner to maintain the lead, Vatsal Desai the brains of the team who cracked most of the clues with the teams support, and last but not the least Upasana Yadav a dazzlingly pretty girl, who did 10 push-ups along with other difficult tasks and was constantly looking out to see if any competing team was nearby! All in all it was a well-earned, hard-worked victory. The hunt started with all the 25 teams running with their arms stretched at their sides moving in a wave motion reciting ‘I am Fabulous/ I am pretty’. Almost all the teams got different clues pointing them towards different locations in the vicinity. Most of the teams were running towards their first clue and some running all the time during the hunt. The format was simple with 2 rounds, all teams had to interpret the clue, find the location and do a task specific to that location. The first round was deliberately simple and lead to an eliminator, after which only 8 teams were supposed to continue to round two. They were initially provided with a piece of map which was the first piece in the puzzle of a 3 piece map. 3

‘The eliminator round was yuck!’ some participating teams stated. We can only say that it was designed to be like that. The “From the crazy duck like run to the madness of \"I am Fabulous\", to running like winner of round-one, which is crazy on the 'Beverly Park Road' (The road from mc D to our coll whose name I the team that came first, was came to know that day :P) to solving riddles and shouting at each other, to directly qualified for round singing and shouting in the middle of the road, to every one of our team singing two. The next 10 teams were and Jayesh M. Dudhal Patil dancing on the street on a song like hum honge to perform a task of finding kamyaaaab.. hahahaha.., to giving money to a complete stranger! (who isn’t a keys in a bucket full of dirty beggar, but willingly took it ) to the video recordings of our lame acts, to bribing water, ironically enough the rickshawwala like the movie Taxi No. 9 2 11, to feeling so lost all the while, hygienically prepared, for a to Mihir Shah running from time to time just to stay in the lead, to skipping a respective lock to a clue. task for completing early (the task was dipping our hands in a bucket of literally Seven out of the ten locks had gutter water and finding keys to locks! :/) to the constant determination to win, corresponding keys in the to a Police Officer coming on the scene (while we were performing a task of bucket; the unfortunate three making a stranger dance and dancing beside him) and inquiring about our locks were the eliminators madness, to asking strangers for locations and running on the main road all the with no corresponding keys. while, without caring of the vehicles on the road, to Waxing my hand! , to Upasana Yadav doing 10 pushups, (a big deal in all that stress), to shouting on Eight teams qualified for the road like a big accident just happened, and Vatsal Desai using all his brains round two and were provided to crack every clue! to hiding the answers to clues from our friends, to with the second piece of the encouraging and pushing each other to not quit and keep running and finally to puzzle map and a clue to the running almost 9 to 12 kms in a single day in 2 and a half hrs. without eating or next location. drinking anything, and completing the Treasure Hunt half an hour in advance! WHAT A DAY IT WAS! But alas in the end nothing beats the Happiness of Finally Winning the TREASURE HUNT! All was DEFINITELY WORTH IT” - Amit Shah (Winning Team Member) After four comparatively difficult clues and tasks, the teams were pointed to a Red hat which had the final piece of the puzzle map. The map pointed the team back to our beloved college where the last and final clue was to be cracked. Two deserving teams were racing for the victor position, shockingly both from BE IT! Drenched in sweat, tired from all the running and tasks but still adrenalin pumping in their vein, all of them were running throughout the college to figure out the final clue. Finally after 15 minutes of brain racking and scrutinizing almost the entire college the victors arrived at the bike which was the answer to the final clue! I’d like to end this article with two paragraphs from an actual clue of a real treasure hunt written by some pirate, As I had gone alone in there, and with my treasures bold, I can keep my secrets where, and hint of riches new and old. So hear me and listen good, your efforts will be worth the cold, if you are brave and in the wood, I give you title to the gold. Congratulations to the winners! - Suraj Tripathy 4

Dragons & Ladders As we recall our childhood memories the first thing that comes in our mind is the games that we played as a kid. The one common game amongst the game list is \"Snakes and Ladders\" During the fest, we conducted the game “Dragons and ladders”, well because snakes are too mainstream. Hence in this game just the term \"SNAKE\" was replaced by \"DRAGONS\" The coordinators of the game were successful not only to refresh players’ childhood memories but to send them to their childhood. Where they can play the game manually, fight for their chances, cheat :p, scream like a kid.  The game started with four people, each person participants will throw the dice and try their luck.  The game consisted of 20 blocks so you had to get to the finish line, before other competitors reach there. But it wasn’t very easy, when three dragons were coming in your way to stop you from winning. The game was quite popular with the students and teachers. One of the best events in Utsav 2014. Kudos to the coordinators and decoration team! - Hazika Warsi 5

Suit Up and Laser Tag One of the most anticipated event of the UTSAV’14 was the laser tag. And yea all the Barney fans….. It’s ‘that’ Laser tag… and for those who haven’t experienced the event, here is how it works. The game comprises of special laser guns that shoot IR beams to the opponent’s guns. Each gun is attached with sensors which when hit with the IR beam, lose power. The main objective of the game is to disable all of the opponent’s laser guns. Well to make things more complicated the room where the event is held is completely dark with Black lights. Only the opponents jacket glow with black lights presence and well let’s not forget the shrieking sound of the gun. The most amazing part of the event was that there were no winners or losers. You just wear a jacket and feel like Rambo. - Kunal Sharma 6

Parle – G Eating One of those events where you have the license to hog…. As funny as the event sounds it was one of the most crowded event in the fest. Sounds of cheering echoed through the college when contestants ate through the countless biscuits. Rules? Just eat as much as you can… Sounds fun doesn’t it? But it is no less than a nightmare for the contestants who were trying to fill every inch of their mouth with as much Parle G as possible; and try to breathe the same time! Wet Brick This was the event that was running parallel to the Parle G eating. These two events combined had cheering so loud that it could be heard miles. Well the event was simple, hold the wet brick only with your index, middle finger and the thumb for as long as you can. Simple isn’t it. But you could see the expressions of the contestants change through seconds from discomfort to agony and finally withdrawal when they drop the brick inside the bucket! Tug of War The event where brute force is the only thing that matters. There is no fun in playing, there is only fun in winning. At the end it’s all about resistance to pain. You may think of this event as just a game but the players think of it as war! You don’t know what’s anger and desperation until you have seen Akshay Sawant’s face during the final battle. A battle so fierce that the rope couldn’t take the tension and pressure applied by both the teams at the final round. - Kunal Sharma 7

Farewell The 8th semester for the BE students proved to be most celebrated and yet emotional of their entire engineering course also adding up with the cherry on the cake as of our college celebrated their ‘last’ ceremony of their graduation days i.e. FAREWELL!!!! Well this farewell organized by juniors, proved to be a hit and high on emotional note. Mr. Swapnil Salvi and Ms. Shivali Naik took along with the hosting part and carrying on the interactions with our fellow seniors. Events organized in the farewell tested our seniors’ spontaneity. Apart from all the fun and lively atmosphere, few faculties’ good-bye speech made the environment full of hearts and emotions! Speech given by Miss. Nina Narasimhan was quoted as the ‘most loved’ speech by all the BE students. Lastly as per our college’s tradition; no event is ended by the Super-DJ in the end, however this time there was a slight change. After few minutes of DJ, few students from TE-IT made a Farewell Video for the Entire BE Batch. Surprisingly entire TE and BE batch gathered to watch that 17 minute video which had all the funny/sweet memories right from classrooms-to-lobby-to-staff rooms-to-IV-to-Annual functions. Watching all summed up in a single video was a visual delight! Well honestly, I’m not an emotional guy but when I attended the farewell, I realized that life is sometimes strange, awkward, funny and beautiful in its own way! Farewell was such an event which made us realize that there was a day when we came here as strangers, and now we are leaving as someone’s friend, companion, brother, sister, mentor and obviously….someone’s Girlfriend/Boyfriend!!! :D (C’mon lets be practical :P) We, All the Raw Ink Members, we are neither heroes nor we know high profile lines to fill up your heart. But yeah, on behalf of entire Raw Ink Team all I want to say is:- “There is a good reason they call these ceremonies ‘commencement exercise’. Graduation is NOT the END…it’s ‘just’ the BEGINNING of new era in your Life!” Farewell people!  Management just did their job of setting up a three-floor building, (Five floors to be soon :P). You guys gave life to this mere building and made it ‘The College’  Thank you for that; and ALL THE VERY BEST! - Zubeen Sayed 13 -

By The Editor-In-Chief I always knew a day will come when we will lose one of our most important team members of Raw Ink. That moment is here now. The first batch of SLRTCE is about to pass out. We are going to miss them. But when it comes to the team members of Raw Ink, I don’t know where to begin. It deprives me of words, when it comes to saying goodbye to the ‘Ink Experts’. I will use one of those cliché sentences ‘What will we do without you’, But it is a well-deserved one. What WILL we do without you? Rishi Jasapara: The guy is a genius. From day one he knew exactly what was expected from him, and he delivered. The tech guy who was responsible to upload the magazine every issue, make the site, designing and a lot of uncredited favors. One of the most professional people in the team will be missed. Suraj Tripathy: Suraj had some experience with writing and he is willing to share. He has a very unconventional way of writing, but we love it. His out of the box thinking will be missed. Pratik More: Pratik More, Sir Pratik More as he was known by the last semester. He is one of the most humble guys you can find (When he isn’t ‘Breaking Bad’ :P). No one can beat him at Formal Writing. Always on time, Sir More was a delight to work with. Mauwiya Mashayak: She was hesitant to join the magazine initially, but after some nagging she came on board. We are glad she did. She was one of the few people writing meaningful articles. :P Enthusiastic and always ready to work. Who also has a weird affection with cats. Salil Sharma: He is more popular as ‘Peter Griffin’ on the team. He is a tech head who works with perfection. The calm and quiet guy as he seems is one of the craziest people you will meet. All of you, wherever you go, whatever you become, whether it be an engineer, a private classes teacher or even a PM. You will always remain an ‘Ink Expert’ and always hold a place in our hearts. Thank you for making Raw Ink happen. - Aditya Raval 16
