A Message from theChairmanLadies and gentlemen,I am delighted to extend a very warmand appreciative welcome to you, whether you are here for the firsttime or have supported us for manyyears. This show is particularly special, as itis the first show to be performed bythe newly merged group of Wetherbyand Linton Drama Group andWetherby Musical Theatre Group. Both groups have been entertainingaudiences in the Wetherby and Linton area for a number of years. The two groups have worked closely together over a number of yearswith some members performing in both groups. The merging of the twogroups has brought together a wealth of talent and knowledge, whichwill enable the continuation of the delivery of an excellent array ofshows to the Wetherby and Linton audiences. We are pleased to be performing in Linton Memorial Hall which is aperfect venue for this musical farce.A theatre production does not happen without a massive team effortand I would like to thank everyone involved, in any capacity, for theircontribution in making this show possible. We are very lucky to have somany dedicated members, friends and family of members who workvery hard to create a “professional” production. Beverley Lyn Chairman
The action takes place in a clinic run by Valerie, that offers sanctuary andtherapy to celebrities; its popularity is on the decline, with only twopatients remaining and minimal staff. The two remaining patients areMelanie, who would love to be an ‘A’ list celebrity, and the middle agednymphomaniac Angela who attends the clinic in the hopes of her beingweaned off men.Suddenly, a chance for salvation is seen when Victoria’s agenttelephones; she will be arriving very shortly, will be checking in as MrsSmith and will bring friends. Crisis looms with no staff and few patients!!Nearby there is an old people’s home which, due to an incompetentworkman, has been left without electricity or water. As a temporarymeasure, the old folk are moved in to the clinic in the care of Valerie. In order to give the impression of a successful business, Valeriepersuades the old folk to help out as staff and guests.A succession of rather furtive people arrive to check in as patients. Theyare all assumed to be friends of Victoria’s and are treated with duereverence. In fact, each hides a different secret of their own. Eventually, everything comes to a head in the finale when all happy endings and plotresolutions come thick and fast! PAGE SPONSOR: The Young Family
Judith SmithDirectorMy love of the theatre began as a child in Lancaster. My parents were musicians and involved with localAmateur Operatic Societies. Going to rehearsals withthem I became involved in the music, acting, movement, costumes and make-up. All representeda very magical world to me, one that I loved andwanted to be a part of.My performances started at Junior School, then theDramatic Society at Grammar School, on to Harrogate Operatic Playersperforming Chorus and my first Principal part. Moving to Bradford and joininglocal amateur operatic societies I played, among others, Bloody Mary (twice) in‘South Pacific’, Mother Abbess in ‘The Sound of Music’ and Carrie in ‘Carousel’,all at the Bradford Alhambra. I was invited to join The Savoyards AppreciationSociety, performing Gilbert & Sullivan Operettas. We performed all over the UK,Ireland, Wales, Majorca, Hungary, touring in the USA. I have a personal recordof playing 22 different leading roles and performing in all 13 of the SavoyOperas, appearing on BBC television, making a recording and also taking part ina commercial for a very well-known DIY store.I was then invited to Direct. Heart in mouth I said ‘yes’ and over 20 years later, not quite sure how many shows I have directed, at least on average two peryear, G&S Operettas, plays and well known musicals for various societies,Aireborough (Yeadon), Bingley, Halifax, Wakefield, Harrogate, Baildon and Settle.I also directed ‘Pirates of Penzance’ in Huddersfield with the chorus made up of115 school children aged from 7 to 11.I was very honoured, a few years ago, to be appointed as a RegionalRepresentative for NODA, the advisory body of the Amateur Theatre world. Now, I am very pleased to find myself in Wetherby, directing a show I have neverseen or previously had never even heard of but, working with a good team ofcast, Musical Director and Choreographer we have worked hard and had a veryhappy time at rehearsals. I do hope you enjoy our efforts and have as much funas we did.
Sarah Rivers A(IDTA) Bt, T, MJ, BA(Hons) DanceChoreographerSarah began performing in local musicals andpantomimes in Oxfordshire as a child, eventuallygraduating to choreographer for groups inOxfordshire and Northamptonshire. Since movingnorth, Sarah has opened The Little Dance Shop in thecentre of Wetherby as well as teaching regularly indance schools around the North Leeds area. This is Sarah's second show with WMTG, having started as a member of thechorus for Little Shop of Horrors way back in 2012. It has been a fantasticexperience returning to such a fun, welcoming group and being given theopportunity to choreograph a show as unique and enjoyable as Act Your Age. Nick Eastwood Musical Director Nothing like a challenge is there? Not just a musical, or a play, or even just a farce - but all three rolled into one. Plenty to keep us occupied then, through a hugely rewarding and intense rehearsal schedule. Oh, and we've had a few laughs along the way as well. Unbelievably, this is my fourth show as Musical Director in Wetherby and as ever, it has been aprofound joy to work with the Sunny Seniors of WMTG – the problems ofremembering lines, tunes and each other have finally found their musical home.As a mere junior I have endeavoured to keep up with the veterans and disguisemy own senior moments as part of the musical score. In his spare time Nick has a private piano teaching practice in North Leedsand also works for Art Forms in Leeds schools as an accompanist.
