Always be updated with the latest happenings by listening to the news on the radio or TV. 2Don’t go outside unless you need to evacuate or an emergency situation has happened. 3Don’t wade through the flood to avoid leptospirosis and other water-borne diseases, as well as electrocution.

If your home structure is weak (e.g made from light materials) and is easily susceptible to being blown away by the winds. If you live in a high-rise building. If you live near a body of water (e.g sea, river) or a place that easily gets flooded. 5 If you can’t evacuate, here’s what you need to do: Never go out or near a window until the storm subsides. Keep your windows closed at all times – winds may temporarily die down, but it could be because the eye of the storm just passed through your area. Avoid staying on the higher levels of your house. Lie under a sturdy object – a hard table for instance. Steer away from using the elevators.

NEVER use a generator inside homes, garages, crawlspaces, sheds, or similar areas, even when using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation. Deadly levels of carbon monoxide can quickly build up in these areas and can linger for hours, even after the generator has shut off.

Stay alert for extended rainfall and subsequent flooding even after the Typhoon or tropical storm has ended. Leave the evacuation area only when authorities say it is safe to return home If you evacuate, return home only when officials say it is safe. Keep monitoring the news for any new typhoon in the Philippines. TWO Report fallen trees and electric posts to proper authorities Stay off the streets. If you must go out, watch for fallen objects; downed electrical wires; and weakened walls, bridges, roads, and sidewalks. Keep away from loose or dangling power lines and report them immediately to the power company. Walk carefully around the outside of your home and check for loose power lines, gas leaks and structural damage before entering. Watch out for live wires or outlets submerged in water. three Inspect your home for damage. Take pictures of damage, both of the building and its contents, for insurance purposes. If you have any doubts about safety, have your residence inspected by a qualified building inspector or structural engineer before entering. Stay out of any building if you smell gas, floodwaters remain around the building or your home was damaged by fire and the authorities have not declared it safe. Check your house for possible damages and repair as necessary If your home was ruined by the typhoon, check first if it’s safe and stable before entering.

Check for wet or submerged electrical outlets and appliances before turning on electricity Use battery-powered flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use candles.
