“Why University Needs Innovation” In the past, the rivalry was through using weapons, but is now by wisdoms. Leaders often have innovative ideas that are in need, bringing them to be developed countries. Innovation is the invention that boosts the economy and advancement of the country. The question is, are we a leader, or a follower? University is the center of nobles, with great opportunity to transform research into innovation. Although university is not for profit, we need income in return to accelerate future research. This is additionally critical to empower Thailand’s economy. Mahidol University definitely realizes this and includes policies to support innovation as its major strategic plan. The Institute for Technology and Innovation Management (iNT) is the key facilitator for creating innovation, moving the university to its mis- sion for the benefit of mankind and to be World Class University. Assoc. Prof. Somsak Laiwejpithaya, from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, developed cancer screening reagent with high efficiency and lower cost. This allows more people to access to the test. The technology has been transferred to PCN Heath Care Co., LTD and will be ready for both domestic and international markets soon. กุง้ แปลงเพศ ดร.สุพตั รา ตรีรตั นต์ ระกูล (สถาบันชีววิทยาศาสตรโ์ มเลกุล) ไดพ้ ัฒนาเทคโนโลยกี ุง้ แปลงเพศ ทีส่ ามารถท�ำ ใหแ้ มก่ งุ้ แปลง เพศออกลูกกุ้งเปน็ เพศผไู้ ด้ในอตั ราสงู ซง่ึ เปน็ ที่ตอ้ งการของ ตลาด เนอื่ งจากจะมีน�ำ้ หนกั มากและสรา้ งรายได้สงู เทคโนโลยี ดังกลา่ วได้สรา้ งมติ ิใหม่สำ�หรบั ธรุ กิจฟาร์มก้งุ และเปน็ โอกาส ในการสรา้ งเศรษฐกิจของประเทศไทยไดต้ อ่ ไป Neofemale Prawn Dr. Supatra Treerattrakool, from the Institute of Molecular Biosciences, invented the technology to sexually transformed prawns to produce male crops in a high ratio. Male prawns are in needs due to their larger size, thus generating more incomes. This innovation accelerates growth of prawn farming and will enhance the nation’s economy.

แคลเซ่ยี มสำ�หรับหญิงใหน้ มบุตร หญิงให้นมบตุ รอยใู่ นภาวะท่ีมีความเส่ยี งตอ่ การขาดแคลเซี่ยม ซ่งึ สำ�คัญต่อท้งั มารดาและทารก การเสริมแคลเซ่ยี มจงึ เปน็ สง่ิ จ�ำ เป็น ศ.ดร.นพ.นรัตถพล เจรญิ พนั ธุ์ (คณะวิทยาศาสตร์) ประสบผลส�ำ เรจ็ ในการวจิ ัยแนวทางเสริมแคลเซยี่ ม ในกลุ่มดงั กล่าว ซึ่งได้ถ่ายทอดเทคโนโลยไี ปสูบ่ ริษัท ไบโอฟารม์ เคมิคลั จ�ำ กัด เพ่ือสรา้ งเปน็ ผลิตภณั ฑอ์ อกสู่ตลาด ต่อไป Calcium for Breastfeeding Mothers Breastfeeding mothers are at risk for calcium deficiency while calcium is crucial for both mothers and neonates. Calcium supplement is thus necessary. Prof. Narattaphol Charoenphandhu, from the Faculty of Science, has successfully innovated the method for calcium supplement and transferred the technology to Biopharm Chemicals, Co., LTD for future product development. อุปกรณเ์ กบ็ และล้างสายสวน ผศ.พญ.ปิยนุช พูตระกลู (คณะแพทยศาสตร์โรงพยาบาลรามาธบิ ด)ี ได้ประดษิ ฐ์ “อุปกรณ์เกบ็ และลา้ งสายสวน” เพ่ือให้การผ่าตดั หลอด เลือดมคี วามสะดวกเรียบร้อยได้ตามมาตรฐาน ซึง่ ได้มกี ารอนญุ าตให้ บรษิ ัท เอส.ท.ี พ.ี เมด็ ดเิ ทค จำ�กัด จดั ทำ�เป็นผลิตภัณฑ์ต่อไป Endovascular Basin Asst. Prof. Piyanut Pootracool, from the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, invented the “Endovascular Basin” to support vascular surgery for its convenience and standard. This innovation is licensed to S.T.P. The film goes to international viewers when Media to Media, Inc., based in South Korea, gets permis- sion to broadcast in South Korea’s cable TV.
