Merlins were seen along the coast, mainly at Northwick Warth. On the 8th, 25,000 Woodpigeons migrating over Aust must have been quite a sight, and 60 Collared Doves at Oldbury was a local record. Wintering Black Redstarts and Stonechats turned up along Severnside, and a late Swallow was still around (28th). THE RESERVOIRS: A Pink-footed Goose was ALAN GICQUEL at Blagdon (24th-26th), with a different bird at Chew (26th). Chew had a Whooper Swan (18th), a Green-winged Teal froma 13th onwards, three or four Red-crested Pochards from 19th onwards, up to seven Scaup all month with a Lesser Scaup (4th & 7th), and a Long-tailed Duck which moved to Barrow Gurney mid-month. The Goldeneye count reached 33 at Chew, 11 at Blagdon and five at Barrow Gurney. The reservoirs probably shared up to seven Goosanders and one Red-breasted Merganser. A Red-throated and a Great Northern Diver were at Chew, then a Black-throated and a Great Northern Diver were at Barrow Gurney, also a Scaup.
