RC 6x Milbemax cat Dosage - Give one tablet once a month08 Sep 2012 CM Clinical Info: OWNER came in as is having difficulty finding out what exactly they need for Phoebe to take her to Australia. Phoebe had her last rabies vax (Nobivac rabies) on 18/08/11 and she arrived in the UK on 08/03/12: her rabies Ab titre 3 months after vax was 125.9IU, paperwork all in order. OWNER wants to move to Australia in November. We need to find out from DEFRA if 1) we can treat Phoebe as if she originated in the UK as she has been here more than 6 months, and if it is OK just to give a booster of Nobivac rabies now + then let her travel 30 or more days later. 2) would she need any blood tests? 3) Is her idchip compatible: 4A5A561E41? DEFRA sent her owner a specimen export certificate, but it was for a dog, so doesn't give enough information.10 Sep 2012 CM EXAMINATION: Spoke to DEFRA: they sent me the specimen export papers for a cat going to Australia: the cat needs to have had a rabies vaccination within the last 12 months and then a rabies Ab titre test no less than 60 days before travelling. Therefore Phoebe will not be allowed to travel before the end of the year. Also, even after all of that, she would have to spend up to 120 days in quarantine - ie a period of 180 days has to have elapsed between the rabies Ab titre test and being let out of quarantine in Australia - she will have to spend a minimum of 30 days in quarantine, but the remainder of the 120 days (ie 90 days) can be spent over here. Contact Type: Practice phoned client Notes: Spoke to Mrs van Heerden: advised her what DEFRA told me + emailed the correct specimen paper over to her.15 Sep 2012 WS Vaccination Rabies Clinical Info: 4a5a561e41 Identichip in place owner spoken to AQAS Which is Aussie equivalant to DEFRA who say to take RABIES TITRE TODAY and then rabies vac today - have done! Date Vet Details21 Sep 2012 CM What you mention in your email is exactly what the website says, so I had though that was that. However, Unbeknownst to me, my mother phoned Byford (perth quarantine ) and then aqis office in Canberra, who have confirmed in writing that they are basically concerned on date of blood test not rabies shot. So we have their instructions in writing, which defra have accepted (we called them directly) as to what she must do. In the interim she had to have another rabies shot and blood test (last saturday) and we are just waiting for the results. So thats all a huge relief!! It sounds like once we have the blood results, she can then travel anytime. I have pasted the aqis email below. We do have a reference number. I hope we haven't been too much trouble :( Thanks again!! Heather Aqis email: As there are a number of issues raised in your email, I will address each of them in turn. 1. Rabies Vaccination Provided that the cat has had a rabies vaccination within 12 months prior to export, it will meet the Australian import conditions for rabies vaccinations. It will not matter that there has been a lapse in the rabies vaccinations as long as a vaccination has been given within 12 months prior to export and an acceptable RNAT test was completed within 12 months prior to export. You will not require a waiver in this instance provided all other documentation is in order. 2. RNATT Validity The Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) recognises Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre (RNAT) test results for a period of 12 months from the blood sampling date (i.e. until 30/10/12). If you believe that you will not be able to import your cat within the 12 month validity period than you will need to complete another RNAT test and provide the supporting documentation for both of the tests when applying for an import permit. This will allow DAFF to consider that the 150 day quarantine countdown in the country of export, to be eligible for the minimum 30 day quarantine period in Australia, starts from the blood draw date of the original test. The supporting documentation required will be the RNAT test Laboratory reports for both tests and an RNAT test Declaration completed for both tests. Page 3 Produced by Teleos Systems Limited
Date Vet Details21 Sep 2012 CM Please note that the second RNAT test must have the blood drawn before the previous RNAT test expires. If there is any lapse DAFF will be unable to consider the previous RNAT test result and the 150 day wait will begin from the new RNAT test blood draw date. 3. Residency in the UK As stated in our import conditions, to be considered as a category 4 country import, the cat must have been resident in the UK for at least six months directly prior to export to Australia. According to the your email, Phoebe arrived in the UK on 9/3/11 (although I suspect this is actually a typo and should read 9/3/12 to fit in with other dates in your email). She would therefore have met the residency requirement on 9/9/12 and is now eligible to be imported under the UK (category 4) conditions rather than the South Africa (category 5) conditions. I trust that this information has been of assistance. If you have any questions please quote the Email Reference Number at the top of the email to assist us in linking the information to the appropriate application. I have it in my head that she is travelling on 17th December - if that is correct, I can see her on 14th December - we need to have at least a 45 minute appointment booked, so please do that as soon as possible. I will need you to prepare a 'declaration' before I see you. In this declaration, you will need to state your full name, address and the following points: 1) that Phoebe was continuously resident in the UK for a minimum period of six months immediately prior to export and that she was not under any form of quarantine restriction at the time of export. 2) that Phoebe is at least six months of age at the time of export and that she is not more than 3 weeks pregnant, nor supporting suckling young. 3) that she is not one of the following breeds or crosses of these breeds with a domestic cat (felis catus): a) serval cat ( Felis serval) b) savannah cat (Felis catus x Felis serval) 4) that she is not a domestic/non-domestic animal hybrid. Please bring this with you signed and dated on the day that we do her pre-travel check.
