Who Cares, Wins Sustainability, always at the forefront of what we do “My views on sustainability were shaped by my childhood years growing up in a small tin-mining town called Pusing in the state of Perak in Malaysia. You could not fail to notice the ugly scars on the landscape left by abandoned mining pools. Poverty and environmental degradation are, thus, not abstract concepts for me. They have helped me form my convictions that education provides the optimum route out of poverty and that we needed to help heal a bleeding Mother Earth. Guided by that and by the memory of those disused mining pools, I directed all my efforts in starting the Sunway Group in 1974 and the development of Sunway City, grounded in the principles of sustainable development, without realising it at that time.
