2020 Honor RollJewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Community Strength in a Time of Crisis
VISION The vision of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh is to have a thriving, vibrant and engaged Jewish community. To accomplish this, we raise and allocate funds and build community locally, in Israel and around the world. The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh will be able to provide the most benefit to our community only if we are true to the following core values: We are guided by the teachings of Torah, including: tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (justice), chesed (kindness), and k’lal Yisrael (peoplehood). We aim to sustain and meaningfully grow Jewish identity, leadership and involvement in our community. Our work will be carried out within the context of cooperation and inclusiveness. We recognize the importance of working in concert with others. We recognize the human dignity of every individual in the community. We care about building a strong community with purpose and involvement. We will establish priorities to accomplish our vision and mission. We value the beliefs and opinions of all members of our community. Cover: In 2019–20, pandemic-related closures kept many people at home. FUNDHOLDERS The Jewish Community Foundation can work with you to accomplish your charitable goals by offering multiple investment vehicles alongside expert asset management and excellent customer service. Donor-advised funds allow you to donate cash or securities to a fund that bears your name, receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction for contributions and retain — for you or your family or a designated person — the right to recommend charitable distributions from the fund to any qualified charity. Endowment funds provide a permanent source of income for the Jewish Federation’s Community Campaign, a particular agency or even a specific field of interest or program. Creating an endowment may provide an immediate tax benefit in the year the endowment is funded. Legacy Funds are permanent endowment funds in the Jewish Community Foundation that perpetuate your commitment to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh’s Community Campaign. A Legacy Fund can be created either during your lifetime or through your will. The Jewish Community Foundation invests the fund and pays the income to the Community Campaign as a commitment in your name in perpetuity, ensuring that your philanthropic tradition will continue. SUPPLEMENTAL GIVING HONOR ROLL While maintaining the primacy of the Community Campaign and its focus on growing the Jewish Community Foundation, the Jewish Federation continued to develop its supplemental giving program. This program engages donors in contributing significant financial commitments above and beyond their commitment to the Federation’s Community Campaign. The lists that follow recognize donors who, in addition to their commitment to the 2020 Community Campaign, have made a minimum supplemental gift of $10,000.
